BU & McGill actually have some similarities. They are both more "urban living" experiences than "traditional college community" experiences. Unless you have financial aid or a scholarship from BU, I don't think it's worth it over McGill.

Queen's has such a low profile in the US that you will surely be explaining what it is and why you went there for the rest of your life in the US. That does not mean it isn't a fantastic school. I've heard from Americans who lived in England that Queen's has the best Canadian reputation in the UK, not McGill. Queen's enrollment has been growing; it might now be 14K undergrads and 17K total (?). Queen's offers classes in a castle in the UK which sounds like an enticing experience.

From Canadians I know now living in the states, it seems their kids want to go to McGill but the parents want them to go to Queen's.

Queen's offers student support, availablity of desired classes, nice facilities, a lot of traditions and spirit (you might not want this), a college town (pop. 100K) in an otherwise remote and scenic area. Very nice campus, on the lake shore. The student ghetto is pretty beat, there are homeless/drug-user people wandering around near that area, and some prisons nearby.

Generally speaking the standard of living is not as high in Canada as in the US. But in the US there is more crime, traffic, litter, vacant city lots, and obnoxious people in a hurry. ;)

I don't know much about Western (another school w/ almost no US visibility) except it's big and there were some CC discussions about a lot of drinking there.

Go to the one that you can afford and is the most comfortable fit, unless the program you want is inferior at that particular school, then look at program quality.

My D liked Queen's better than McGill but is going to Case Western Reserve in Ohio over both of them. She is interested in Cognitive Science as a dual major or minor and, ironically, Case just hired Prof. Donald from Queen's (he has a PhD from McGill) to head up the newly established Cog. Sci. Dept. at CWRU.
