Hello all:
I didn't transfer in the middle of a school year; I switched schools after 10th grade. On the Common App, under "Education Interruption" it asks if you "did or will change secondary schools". Should I check that box?
If you do check that box, it asks you to explain- presumably in an essay- in "Addition Information". Changing schools (and why I did so) is the subject of my main Common App Essay, and so I don't want to have to use that essay in the "Additional Information" section.
Can anyone explain?
Thanks!

I guess what I am asking is, do I have to say my education was interrupted?

Yes, you have to check it. If your main CA essay speaks about the details of your change in schools, then you can just write in the Additional Info box “Please see main Common App personal statement for more information.” or something to that effect. I’m taking a gap year, which also requests another statement, so I’ve had to ask similar questions. Good luck! :)

@LAMuniv : Thanks so much!

Can a student check “education Interruption” and just ask the current guidance counselor to add the details in her report for the Common App?

@dyiu13 I guess, though if I were an admissions counsellor I would like to see it from your perspective… There’s an essay in which you are required to speak about your education interruption, so if you don’t end up answering this yourself, you just need to mention that your GC wrote about it ("See counsellor’s recommendation letter). Still, I would recommend that you at least write a couple of sentences about it yourself.

Ah! If there’s space for a blurb, then, yes, explain it. It’s really important because switching high schools is so disruptive. My own DD16 is now on her third HS.
