I'm planning on majoring in Special Education. Does anyone know how good their program is?

Amazing. 100% of graduates in the past five years, I believe, of the elementary/special education program were employed within 9 months of graduation. All of our professors are amazing and complete sweethearts. Take St. Germaine for Foundations if you’re attending in the fall! :)

Thank you so much!

I cannot say enough how amazing the Education department is here at Marist. I started out as only an English major but second semester of my freshmen year I decided to declare a second major in Education. It was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Every member of the faculty was so welcoming and helpful and is willing to answer any questions you have about classes, student teaching etc. You are able to do fieldwork and go out into the community to observe in local schools, and one of the requirements for my Foundations class was to observe a School Board meeting in Hyde Park. They really try to expose you to all areas of Education which is great. I highly recommend this program!

A couple things that set Marist apart is that freshman year right away you are required to do fieldwork and the faulty helps to find you placement within a school (one class if you are education, two if you are special education). Another cool thing about Marist is that Hawaii comes to Marist in Poughkeepsie to interview the senior class and offer students jobs to teach in a classroom. You are required to do one year of teaching in Hawaii, but most end up doing two years and then returning the main land. If education is what you want, Marist is a great place to consider!
