Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the psychology dual certification in elementary education and special education please? Also does anyone know anything about Marist's 5 year BA/MA program?

I’m a senior at Marist enrolled in the dual certification psychology/special education program and the 5th year MA program. For the undergraduate degree you begin fieldwork in schools as early as your freshman year, I’ve enjoyed the hands on experience that gets you into schools early on. The program certifies you to teach grades 1-6 in either the general or special education setting while also earning a degree in psychology. To take part in the 5 year program you apply for the program in the fall of your junior year and begin taking graduate level courses during your junior and senior year undergraduate work. If you enter the 5 year program you will earn a masters degree in educational psychology by attending graduate school for just one year after you have finished your undergraduate work. I encourage you to check this program out, it has been an amazing experience for me.James Dodd is the advisor for the program and is great at answering any questions you may have.

My niece has this degree and she is very happy with her job day-to-day. She has full benefits as well (health, dental, etc) and her family (husband and 2-year-old child) are also covered (husband works less-than-full-time in construction, so no benefits). If it’s a field you enjoy, then I would recommend it.
