8:00 PM 2007 Stellfox recipient: Pulitzer Prize-playwright Edward Albee
Three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee is the 2007 recipient of The Harold and Ethel L. Stellfox Visiting Scholars and Writers Program award. He will give the talk, "The State of Theater and the Arts in America." Called “the greatest living playwright” by The New Yorker magazine, Albee is perhaps best known for his three-act drama, "Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," produced in 1962 and immediately recognized for its unabashedly honest dialogue and jarring interpretation of modern relationships. Albee won Pulitzer Prizes for "A Delicate Balance" (1966), "Seascape" (1975) and "Three Tall Women" (1994). He received two Tony Awards, for "Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1962) and "The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?" (2002). In 2005, Virginia Woolf returned to Broadway and received six Tony Award nominations, including best play. Albee also received a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatre. He is working on a new production of his play, "Peter & Jerry," which is scheduled to open at Second Stage in New York this fall.
