Edward Humes' "School of Dreams"-- Anyone Read It?

I posted another college admissions-related message on this board, about a book called “A Hope in the Unseen”, when I remembered reading “School of Dreams” just two years ago as well.

It’s about very bright, extremely intelligent and ambitious Asian-American high school students living in Cerritos, CA; it details their high school experiences (many under the enormous pressure of overly-ambitious, proud parents) and their college admissions process (many, shockingly, not given admission to top schools despite being exactly qualified). It’s really interesting and somewhat heartbreaking. But I think a lot of CCers would relate.

Has anyone heard of or even read the book? The high school the kids attend is called Whitney High, and is famous outside the US in places like India and South Korea. I’m sure people here have heard of it, perhaps most especially if they are from So Cal.

I read the book and thought it was excellent. It also shows how much pressure is put on some kids by their families.

my cousin goes to whitney. i go to UCLA, which is the #1 most popular destination for whitney students and i've met a lot of them. all of them say the book is a little bit exaggerated. nevertheless, the pressure is still real and i'm sure their experiences are near typical to reality. anyway, you should see their college matriculation this year. they had one of their strongest classes in a while.
