Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i got an early notification acceptance today and i'm in california. applied RD

Are you going to go? Was mac the first choice for most of the people here?

no i want to go to uc berkeley. macalester is cool, just too cold and not big enough for me.

Im the opposite- I want to go to a small college and I want to leave California. But mac wasnt my first choice either- more Dartmouth/UChicago/WUSTL. You should hear about berkeley soon- best of luck!

haha thanks. i'm waiting up on east coast schools. good luck with uchicago, thats an awesome place (imo, better location than dartmouth and wustl)

Does anyone know when the actual decisions are supposed to be sent out? Is there an exact date?

March 30th

Last year they were sent out well before the 30th.

well at least one of you can be glad bc i am sending in a letter telling them i will not be accepting my admission bc they didn't give me a dime, so since its before the 30th, maybe it'll open up 1 more spot for you guys still waiting

Well that's disconcerting. You'd expect them to give you some sort of merit$ as you were qualified enough to be admitted early. I have around the same stats as you, too. Dang. I guess my chances of getting a nifty scholarship don't look so good anymore :(. Oh well, one can still hope...

Macalester does not give merit aid.

"Merit-Based Scholarships
Macalester offers several special scholarships that are based on academic merit rather than financial need.

With the exception of the National Merit Scholarship (which requires a special procedure), you will automatically be considered for merit-based aid when you apply for admission to Macalester. Merit-based scholarships are awarded for a four-year period. If you qualify, you may receive need-based financial aid in addition to these scholarships.

Macalester College National Merit Scholarships are awarded to National Merit Finalists who have designated Macalester as their first-choice college and have been offered admission. The annual award is $5,000 ($2,000 from the National Merit Scholarship Competition and $3,000 from Macalester in the form of a DeWitt Wallace Distinguished Scholarship).

DeWitt Wallace Distinguished Scholarships are awarded on a highly competitive basis to some students who are National Merit Semifinalists, Commended Students and Finalists who are not awarded a National Merit Scholarship. Recipients typically rank in the top five percent of their high school graduating class. The annual award is $3,000. The scholarship is named for DeWitt Wallace '11, founder of Reader's Digest, who was a longtime benefactor of Macalester."

My chances STILL don't look good :(. Crossing my fingers though...Does anyone know about how many people get the DeWitt scholarship?

I'm not sure, but I agree with what people said about fin aid, especially tagran. I know I'm being selfish, but early admittance means crap with minimal (in my opinion) scholarships/financial aid. It was very high on my list, one that included fairly prestigious schools (including ivies) and the fact that I haven't gotten much money has disappointed me greatly. Mac dropped waaaaay down on the old list. I know I'm a brat. :) Flame away.

Whoo! I got accepted RD. My quick stats: IB diploma candidate from Colorado, white male, good essay, etc. Got no financial aid, though...so I'll have to wait on my other places. Mac's the only one that's accepted me so far--waitlisted at Colorado College and Haverford. But I liked Mac best of those at least!

liquid

all you have to do is have your parents or legal guardians write them a letter asking for more because you cant afford it or whateva.

my parents did this because they had a problem with moving their office which will potentially cost them tens of thousands of dollars, and we recieved 5k more per year. and only 500 of this was in loan money, the rest was grant.
