I just got an email from my grade dean. I had been signed up for an advanced french class at my high school, but it just won't fit into my schedule, so I can't take it. He explained things very nicely, but made it clear that theres no way that I can take this class next year. I've been taking french classes for forever, and I'm sure you guys know how easy it is to lose a language, so I'm looking for ways to continue the learning outside of school. I was thinking of taking a class at a nearby college, but the only one that seems to work with my schedule is a class from 7 - 8 pm. Due to extreme extracurriculars, I'm never out of school year round before six - do you think that class would be overburdening myself? Any other suggestions? I'm think a weekend class sounds best, but I dunno any in th Manhattan/New York area. Help! :)

Does your school have Independent Study/self-guided study or whatever? Perhaps you could arrange that with one of the faculty.

If you don't need course credit, you could look for a French conversation group of some kind. Here in the boonies, we even have such a group at the public library. Manhattan has everything! So I'm sure that must be a possibility.

How many days a week does that 7-8pm class meet? Every day would seem too much, imo. Once a week would be doable. In between, I don't know. Can you audit? (so that it doesn't matter if you can't attend every class?)

I agree with jmmom. Some schools (like mine) won't even give credit for independant study. I'm sure in a place like manhattan you can find someway to continue french. I think your biggest problem won't be where but when

Check out the Alliance Francaise - there is a chapter in Manhattan. Their website is www.fiaf.org They have a lot of different activities/classes going on.

Hey thanks! That Alliance Francaise looks really interesting. I think I may enroll there...
But keep the suggestions coming!
