Eek.. OSU vs. SMU??

I've got quite the conundrum! I've been an OSU Cowboys fan my whole life, I know a ton of girls in Stillwater, and I even have an orange and black mustang that I call "Pete." I've become good friends with a lot of guys in frats at OSU, and at two of them I already have guys lined up to be my big bro so I don't think getting a bid will be a problem. Add to the fact that the school I've always wanted to go to was OSU. Stillwater is one of my favorite towns in the world..it's a great college town.

The other school I applied to was SMU in Dallas, which has an outstanding reputation in this part of the country. I got my financial aid offers back, and it will just cost me room & board to go to OSU, and only about $15,000 -total- for me to go to SMU for 4 years, which was surprisingly good. I'm not sure which is better for my future? OSU is the school I've always wanted to go to, and also the one with the most impressive alumni; yet..SMU sounds really cool because it's very prestigious.

What would some of you do in this situation? Or is there anyone on here that goes to either OSU or SMU that had a similar dilemma when they were admitted?

Ohio State University- Columbus

You gotta to go to SMU. Of course the sad thing about this post is that academics were not even mentioned.

Wait, so, in terms of money, is it Room & Board (~7-9k) for 4 years at OSU vs. only 15k for 4 years at SMU? Because if SMU is cheaper, then I’d say save the money and go to the more prestigious school.

oregon state, son

I’m pretty sure the OP is referring to OSU- Oregon State. I’d go there over SMU if u have all those connections and love it that much more.

You guys are joking right?

Stillwater, OK
OSU

Oklahoma State Cowboys!!!

Anyway, I’d go OSU since you have wanted to go there for so long, fulfill ur dream haha.

I think the OP is referring to Oklahoma State University as OSU.

Oh Oregon State is the Beavers… right, I was thinking orange and black lol. Still go with Ok State.

Yeah at least you had Black and Orange right. I probably should have been more specific, I just figured since I was talking about the Texas/Oklahoma area it would be assumed… like how UT could mean either Longwhorns or Vols. Vociferous, I’m going to be majoring in engineering which OSU and SMU are both well-known to be good for. crs1910, it would be $15k for 4 years at SMU, while it would be on avg $4,500 a year to go Greek at OSU. The money is so even it’s a non-issue.

So far
OSU 2
SMU 3

I mean OSU 2, SMU 2. (not that I’m actually going to go to the one that wins in this thread, it’s just interesting to tabulate the perspective of others, and I really appreciate it)

I think Mephist will go for OSU, he edited it when I said it was Oregon State after saying Ohio State lol.

And just some nice irony, "I even have an orange and black MUSTANG that I call “Pete.” " (SMU Mustangs lol)

Yeah I didn’t think of that. But black and orange are OSU colors, and the mascot is Pistol Pete…

And suffice it to say the SMU Mustangs are a pretty depressing thought. They got the death penalty.

Not to be pushy, but… bump

I’d say if you wanted to work in the Dallas business community after graduation, go to SMU.

If you want to do engineering, go to OK State.

OSU. SMU isn’t worth the money and you’ll have more fun rooting on some good teams.

Glad that I’m not insane for choosing OSU over SMU.

“I’d say if you wanted to work in the Dallas business community after graduation, go to SMU.”

Interesting thought, because that is the plan after graduation, to be honest. I live half-way between OKC and DFW, and we get the Dallas newspaper which covers like 6 colleges that I assume are the Top 6 as far as Dallas area college grads go–UT, OU, A&M, Tech, SMU, and OSU. I’d like to investigate some official statistics on what colleges actually have the largest shares of Dallas-area college grads.

I know a little bit about SMU. It is located nicest area in Dallas, Highland Park and University Park. From my understanding, most students came from upper and upper middle families. Many chose it for its safe location and nice environment.

So whether to pick OSU or SMU, it is tough call. OSU is your typical state school while SMU is much smaller and more babysiting type of school. Those two schools have complete different experience.

Personally, I vote for SMU.
