Hi! I'm going to UCI in the fall, and my EFC came out as 00000.
What does this mean?
Originally my efc was 00405-ish but then my parents did their 2010 tax return and i updated everything and my new EFC is 00000.
Sooo...yeah!
Thanks!

Did you fill out the FAFSA on time? You get Federal Pell Grant, CAL Grant, UC Grant, and loans.

Yup! My first one was on time and then i got an email saying that if my parents did their 2010 tax return i should update. Should i have not updated it?? O_O

You should always update with the correct information. You did the right thing updating as soon as you had the correct information.

A 0 EFC will net you a full Pell Grant. Cal Grant will depend on income and asset ceilings as well as GPA (hopefully you filed the GPA verification form or your school did), not the EFC (although with a 0 EFC, you most likely do have income low enough to qualify ;)). Since I’m guessing your family’s assets were ignored by FAFSA, you are most likely below the asset ceiling, but I cannot answer this for sure. I do know that as an independent who has low enough income that her assets are not even required to be reported (not that they amount to much anyways) that I had no issue with my Cal Grant or having to provide that information.

Getting a UC Grant will depend on the campus and funds available along with which Cal Grant you receive (A or B). The only thing they guarantee to meet is fees (Blue&Gold if your income is under $80k and you filed the GPA verification form for Cal Grant) and Cal Grant will satisfy this. There is no promise to meet anything beyond this. They do not promise to meet need let alone need without loans. However, the UCs still seem to be fairly generous to low income students.

Did the OP get a 3.00 GPA or higher in HS?

Oh WOW!! Thanks! =D hahaha
and yes I did~ my HS gpa was around 3.5-3.6 uw

Did UCI give you a FA package before you submitted the SIR?
