Effect of canceling AP test score on scholar awards

My son took the AP French exam this spring after completing French 4, but did not take the AP French class. He does not feel like he did well on the exam which is not a huge deal since he did not request to report it to any colleges (he is a sophomore). However, I have since realized that this score will be averaged in with future AP test scores when determining if he could be designated as an AP Scholar (at least for the higher level awards where they average all test scores).

In looking at the AP website it says that scores can be canceled at any time. The only reason you would need to cancel before June 15th each year is if you had requested that your score report for that year be sent to any colleges. Since this does not affect him, it seems he might as well wait to receive his score before deciding to cancel.

What I could not determine is if you cancel a score at any point if it is then removed from your overall average when calculating scholar awards. In searching CC many posters “thought” a canceled score would still be included in your average.

I spoke today with a College Board rep who had to put me on hold to answer my question. Her reply was that if he cancels that score at any time (doesn’t matter if it’s before June 15th or well after) that score will not be averaged in to determine scholar awards later on down the road.

So…the point of my long post is that even though I was hopefully given an accurate answer by this rep, I’d like to know if there are students who have canceled a score after they received the score report and can confirm that that canceled score truly did not show up when averaging their total test scores later on.

Thanks to anyone who can give first hand feedback!

I have the same question. The scores will be out soon. Any other feedback? Will Cancelled Scores (after seeing them) be considered for Award Calculations

I would also like to know the answer to this. I will probably cancel before getting my score so that my teacher is not disappointed lol

I guess the real question is: How important is AP Scholar in admissions? Or is it a marketing ploy to get you to take more AP tests?
