I'm studying at Oxford for my junior year. It's not through my school, so while I recieve course credit, the grades I'll recieve will not be factored into my GPA. Will law schools factor my year abroad GPA in? Have I made a horrible mistake? I hear the grading is much more stringent there.

I do not think grades are given at Oxford. If I am not mistaken, you pass the course based on the recommendation given by your tutor. Also, you will only be taking around 2-3 courses.

You're correct, however, grades are converted to American equivalents upon my return to the states. As the courses are separated into trimesters and I take two tutorials a term, I'm actually taking six courses, which apparently is the equivalent of a full course load here in the States (ie 9 at my current school).

I am not sure how it works at your school, but I believe Georgetown only bestows P/F for courses taken at Oxford. If that is the case, I am not sure how the LSAC would handle them.

That's the same way it works at my school... I've been told grades are recorded... but they only register as P/F. So far, I've had trouble finding anything definitive concerning LSAC response.

There should be information on one of the forms listed here:

thanks a lot

so will law schools factor that in?

sadly... i stil can't figure it out.

So much for actually doing your own work:

Grades Excluded from Conversion:

Passing grades from systems of one or
two passing grades (e.g., Pass/Fail,
Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, Credit/No
Credit, or Honors/Pass/Fail, High
Pass/Pass/Fail), and those for which
conversion rules cannot be formulated,
including courses for which a transcript
gives only narratives or descriptions.
Credits for the work in these courses are
totaled and reported separately as
unconverted credits.

This is in the LSDAS Information Book.

No need to be snippy... finals are sort of all-consuming right now.

Thanks, though.

so then if they can be converted to grades, they will be counted even though your school p/f's them.
