Hi,
I’m happy to say I have been accepted unconditionally by two of my top choices in the United Kingdom (King’s College London, University of Edinburgh) and am waiting to hear back from two others. UK universities do not look whatsoever at American high school grades, so I can happily say that, worse comes to worst, I’ll be heading across the pond and this post does not apply.
For schools in the US, I applied ED to Columbia and EA to Michigan, for whom I realize that they will only see my first quarter grades at most (which went well, all A’s besides one B) and that, if I get accepted, I’ll have to bomb my semester grades pretty badly to be rescinded.
My question about Columbia is, if I get deferred, what is the chance of ultimate acceptance, because if it is extremely low, I probably won’t waste my time trying to force myself to get all A’s. I’m not really all that excited about the prospect of Michigan and for Columbia, my attitude is that my chance of getting in is what it is.
I decided Columbia was the only US reach I was bent on applying to, and I expect to only send apps to Reed and NYU in the following month. I have an SAT of 1470 and a weighted GPA of 4.7 (as of now) and for schools in the acceptance rate of NYU, 33%, and Reed, 31%, how bad does it hurt my chances of RD if I get half or mostly B’s for senior semester grades? Never have had and plan on never having any C’s, got almost all A’s with a B or two every semester for first semester freshman year, sophmore and junior year, and mostly B’s second semester freshman year.
School work has really been an uphill climb this year so far, because my UK acceptances have put me off my guard. Just want to know if I’m jeopardizing Reed and NYU by allowing for I slight dip in grades right now. If I decide for sure that going overseas is truly what I want to do, I can finally slack off in peace (amen)
Thanks!
