Hate to have to agree that Lewis is dismal. Living there definitely affected DS’s frame of mind sophomore year. He did everything possible to keep busy and avoid going back to his room. As for closets, if memory serves, there is closet space but no door to enclose it. There was also a shelf high above the clothing rack where DS stored his trunk/luggage.

Seriously? No closet doors?

are there elevators in metcalf? or in any of the dorms?

THe only dorms that have elevators are Sophia Gordon and South Hall.

And is it true that there are no closet doors in Lewis?

I can’t be completely sure. I wish I paid more attention when I was doing walkthroughs of Lewis a couple of weeks ago…I didn’t remember if the closets had doors or not…I know for sure that South Hall doesn’t have closet doors.

This is really unfair…south hall has an elevator while Lewis does not…
If the distance isn’t too much…maybe the mechanical and civil engineering students can build a bridge between the two fourth floors…

Actually, I called ResLife to ask about the closet doors in South (do they swing out or slide- I wanted to know if over-the-door shoe racks would work, yes, I’m that kind of mom, at least some of the time) and the answer was “they open out” so I’m guessing that South does have closet doors?

South Hall was the headquarters for my job this summer, and I spent a lot of time stripping and distributing to rooms there. Each and every room that I’ve seen had no actual “closet”, but a separated space at the front of the room by the door with a bar/pipe thing for clothes on hangers and a shelf on top. These spaces were slightly enclosed but there were no doors for them. There were some rooms, however, that had stand alone wardrobes.

I called Residential Facilities and they said there are doors on the closets in Lewis. I hope they gave me correct info.

There are no closet doors in South Hall. Why am I not shocked that Reslife doesn’t even know anything about the dorm their office is in?

ResLife sent me to Residential Facilities for the answer to the question about closet doors in Lewis.

Never go to ResLife with any of your problems of any kind. They will, at best, waste your time.
As you may have seen it mentioned, ResLife is composed primarily of a cabal of crypto-Nazis, who, having escaped the fall of the Reich and established themselves by chance here at Tufts, seek to use what little power they have at their disposal to mete out their revenge upon Hitler’s enemies by destroying the lives and endangering the sanity of America’s youth.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! I could not agree more! Though the Financial Aid department comes pretty close too.

Yes! That’s the way I remember DS’ room in Lewis. Great description.

^ thanks, I didn’t know Lewis was like that as well.

Tell me about it! It’s funny how we, the Conference Bureau, who only stations ourselves in South over the summer, know more about the building then do the ones who are there ALL year AND are in charge of all these buildings! It’s ridiculous.

My DH suggested that a student assistant might have answered the phone and guessed at the answer, either making an assumption based on her own dorm or on just not wanting to say “I don’t know”?

No, there was no student assistant “guessing”. You made the (sometimes fatal) mistake of asking ResLife a question and trusting the answer.

It would be wiser for a mouse to ask a cat for help than for a Tufts student or parent to ask ResLife for help.

I’m sensing some strong anti-ResLife vibes over here.

I take it you’re not a current student?

They’re evil. Pure, unadulterated evil.
