Lewis Hall for frosh?

Lewis Hall for freshmen.. anyone anyone? General reputation... anything

Have you tried looking at the Class of 2009 forums?

Someone just asked about Lewis on another post, and I tried to answer them there.

my good friend is in Lewis in a forced triple, but she talked to both roommates in a 3 way call yesterday and is really excited b/c they're both exactly like her and very nice

Hey Mjones,

Lewis Hall will either make you stronger and form a very close bond with your hall mates or you'll hate every minute of it. Lewis has a large number of Jrs and Srs, as a result, the froshes feel left out. Furthermore, given the set-up of the dorm (designed by a prison architect), it is not condusive to social environment.

During my frosh year, a number of my friends lived in Lewis and they hated every minute of it, due to the lack of people around. Bottom line, Lewis will be a little tougher to socialize, but it is doable.

If you have any specific questions, I can put you in touch with someone that lived in Lewis 2 years ago.

Cheers!

Vlad

Just keep this in mind, the makeup of the dorms does change a bit year to year and your dorm experience is what you make it. If you make the effort it will be fine and fun. No one can expect the building you are in to make or brake things for you. For example, Bush one year was very very loud one year and quieter the next. There are many factors in play beyond just the four walls around you.

i got into houston... jsu wonderin what the general rep of it is like...

I loved my freshman year in Lewis. Some of it was that my hall was great (believe it or not, we still hang out together years after graduation). The long halls are good for socializing, and, in some ways, the fact that it's on the edge of campus helps - we all bonded because we were the only people around. Also, my year, there were mostly sophomores in the singles - that will change the dynamic.

I really did like it - the bathroom situation was annoying (not nearly enough space for us), but the rooms are fantastic. Each roommate will have a walk-in closet. We hung up curtains to make a changing area. Beds were on the other side, and there was more than enough room for bookcases (yes, plural), a trunk, and our fridge.

Bring a carpet - the tile gets cold.
