I think maybe it's because schools generally attract the same kinds of people, in terms of race, geographic location, religion, etc. every year.

For some reason, certain kinds of girls are considered more attractive. For example girls from the South, which is why schools like UGA and W&L that have a lot of southern students are known for having pretty girls. I know several pretty girls who are headed to Cornell next year but to be honest, New York doesn't tend to be known for its women so in general it might add to the reputation.

I think you're going to find plenty of pretty and plenty of ugly girls at every college (unless you go to one of the few remaining all-boys schools) but reps are reps.

It seems that pretty girls are often lured away from acedemic pursuits (or extremely religious...or both) by not so smart people who lust after their beauty. Its not to say that they arent still smart...just that they may have had their stats damaged early in high school by new experiances and now have trouble getting into more selective schools.

My son was asked to supply a photo with his Univ of Penn app -- but none of the other schools he applied to ask for photos -- we were wondering if they screen for a "look" (and he got in). Just curious which schools you all applied to which did ask for photos -- that answers the question if a college can screen for "looks"

It doesn't make any sense that there should be "ugly girl schools" and "pretty girl schools".

The fact of the matter is we're talking about which schools have good looking students. Of course we know that every school has both good looking and not so good looking students, but what does that contribute to the conversation? Nothing, because we already know that! So if we're talking about which schools are known for having good looking students and which schools are known for having not so good looking students, then there is obviously going to be categorizing. Cornell being known for having "ugly" girls does not imply that you or anyone you know is ugly. It means that the public opinion thinks Cornell has less good looking students than a lot of other schools.

God.....you all are so frustrating!
Debating about appearances...tsk,tsk,tsk! Come on, you know what da consequences are gonna B.
Very "uncivilized" and infantile/immature ideas...

PRINCETON! WOOHOO! Party @ the eating clubs! (Even if they don't compare to Wash-U parties...

I heard people at Wash-U party hard. I went there a few times before getting into Princeton, and I had an amazing time. Anyone who wants to go to an amazing college with students who also know how to have fun should go to Wash-U.

It's easier to be pretty than smart...it's almost impossible to be both.

Ok first of all, you're either pretty, or you're not, you're either smart or you're not. It's not a matter of being easy or hard. So thanks for your opinion, but it definitely doesnt apply.

chill out, biatch.
I wasn't talking about the effort. I meant, as you go through life, pretty people have an easier time.
and your welcome for my opinion, I'm glad to hear that somebody's convoluted ass has no ear for sarcasm, or at least is so stuck up that anything anybody says that doesn't pertain to how to get accepted into an "elite party school" is automatically fodder for you to try and spit out to make somebody else look like a fool.

I'm not sure which you are more, a troll or a tool.

Cornell girl are NOT attractive. I been there several times and this is common knowlege. A girl from my HS who was way below average struts around like a queen now.

To say, that ugly people don't apply to the same schools is ignorant. Thats like saying theres no ugly people in the world at all. If you want to believe everyone has the same attractiveness argument thats fine. But tour Rice, University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, MIT and Cornell and then visit Vanderbilt, Georgia, UVA, UT, and University of Florida and say there is no distinction between the quality of the girls.

It is definitely possible to be good-looking and smart, but as intelligence goes up they become harder to find.

college2332, you dont know what you're talking about. im not gonna be a feminist here, but the reason UT, UVA, Georgia, and UF have such hot girls is because they are massive schools with huge campuses. i bet you walked around the town, saw some hot girls and thought "oh they must be hot college chicks". while that may be true, remember that they are big state schools and attract every possible type of person that exists in that state. besides, the south has a lot of fat people
