What are the schools with a reputation for having not only outstanding academics, but also an active and fun social life?

Some I can think of are USC, Vanderbilt, UVA, and Washington & Lee. What else?

I heard UCLA has a good party scene, and it's academics are great

University of Pennsylvania & Duke definitely.

That's actually Colby's motto, LOL

Wisconsin, UNC.........

I've partied at Penn several times, and I don't really see what all the fuss is about. Its not especially better than any of the other schools I've been to, and in some respects, its worse.

Dartmouth Duke UVA UNC USC

Of the TOP schools I would say Dartmouth, Duke, Stanford, Penn.

At Tulane, first we out-think you, then we out-drink you.

EDIT: Stanford has no social scene, I hate coming on here everyday and seeing people saying Stanford is a party school. It's not.

i would say Emory has a good mixture of partying and working...but then again i don't have many schools to compare it to

Brown for sure.

brown is a great time, but having spent alot of time there and at dartmouth, dartmouth blows it out of the water in this regard.

Wustl!!!!!!

Notre Dame, Duke, Dartmouth, USC, and probably Georgetown.

Here's StudentsReview's list calculated by reader reviews, seems to be reasonable:

the list provided above is pretty accurate i would say (except it seems to be missing Duke and USC).

i was just about to mention UC Santa Barbara. huge party school, very underrated for academics because of the party rep, but people tell me UCSB is too a "work hard, party hard" school.

remember, U Can Stay Buzzed while taking an exam!

and to confirm the person who mentioned UCLA, yes, UCLA is a work hard, party hard school.

Ugh God. NOT georgetown. Georgetown is notoriously strict on underage drinking and unregistered parties. People should really only say schools that they personally know, not just parrot stereotypes and reputations.

U Can Stay Buzzed? What about the University of Casual Sex & Beer?

but people tell me UCSB is too a "work hard, party hard" school.

I think the administration is trying to emphasize the "work hard" part these days. These are all recent examples of crackdowns:

Isn't Goleta/Isla Vista PD notorious for its lack of friendliness toward student partying?
