ELKS Past Winners (What SATs did you guys have)

hmm, I was a local chapter winner who advanced to the state level. I had a 1420 SAT 33 ACT, other good suff....
btw, I got 2000 for winning on local level.

I don't see how that works. I got up to the state level but didn't win any money yet. ?

All the money we've gotten so far has been money through local chapters/district/state organizations.

1490 SAT, 35ACT excellent EC's leadership, community service and rec's just received the "you have been eliminated from the local level" letter.

anyone from TN got word about anything???

Okay- any updates???? How unfortunate that the winner isn't notified till after May 1. Wouldn't a big scholarship like this make a big difference in college choice??? What do you think?

DD received letter today that she is national finalist. Winners tba May 31,2006. Invited to award luncheon. Anyone know how many finalists per state???? Thanks...and good luck to everyone!!

momnipotent, i agree, it would be helpful to know whether one's a winner or not before ruling out the more expensive colleges

do you mean a finalist for nationals?

Daughter got letter today dated March 10 that she proceeded past the District level. Guess Pennsylvania is WAY behind everybody else. We just figured she didn't progress. Do all the states have the same timelines?

So if you got past state level, you'll find out if you actually won May 31st?

Momnipotent: You can figure out how many finalists per state from the winners last year. I was so honored when I realized I advanced to the national competition! I can't wait to see the stuff posted on May 15th.

EDIT: About updates. I sent my top four colleges info about how I advanced to state (my third and final update to my colleges). Attached to that I submitted my essay that was in my Elk's Brochure. Hopefully, they'll enjoy it :)

Thanks cannednishand great job!!! I will forward info to Ds schools today...mayabe too late.

I received a letter dated March 9 from the PA Elks Scholarship State Chairman informing me that I have moved on to the national level.....so I guess Pennsylvania's schedule is pretty much the same as all other states....

I haven't gotten anything back from States for Virginia yet. I haven't gotten a rejection letter yet though, but I guess looking at how everyone else has gotten it already = :-(. Oh well.

I didn't receive ANY notification: lodge, district, or state. I wonder what's going on. Probably rejection.

Hi guys! I am new to this but decided I would update Virginia people. I got a letter today ... and funny story it was in a big envelope and the return address was from "_______ Hearing Assosiates" I don't remember what that first word was. And i was like umm what's wrong with my hearing??? haha. anyways it was from the Virginia Elks Association. I had not heard from anyone ... local .. district.. but i guess i got to states. No extra money but $1000 in my name!! Furthermore, for those asking how many people per state. The letter says that "forty Virginia youth were selected to receive scholarships"

They also returned my entire application in the folder that I had provided.

Hope this helps all those that think there is no hope!

Yeah, I got that back from VA States too. I got 1,000 from local and another 1,000 from states.

If we got our application back, does that mean we don't advance to nationals, right?

ok i am very confused. i just dug out the entry form for elks and it says that it is 1000 per year but on the letter it says that it is a one time award. also do you (sheflowers) think that your local lodge gave you the 1000 from their funds? All mine says is that I should receive a check for $1000 drafted in my name

oh wait i didn't answer your question. yeah i think that's it for us. but hey at least we got somewhere! anyone know how many people advance to nationals from each state?

European:

I think the local one is from their own funds. And yeah, the 1,000 is a one-time state award. If we had advanced to nationals, then there were 4-year scholarships available.

Congrats to us both. =)
