Email from Cornell re: PAM major

I applied to Cornell as a CAS Economics major. Today, I got an email saying

"...After reviewing your file we see a good match between your interest in economics, and the Policy Analysis & Management major in Cornell’s College of Human Ecology. I am writing to you to ask if you would be interested in being considered for this program as well...

...Please let me know if you are interested in being considered for this major. If you do, I will need an e-mail or written essay that effect, including a formal “please change my college & major to Human Ecology/ Policy Analysis & Management, and a brief essay on your interest in the PAM major...by Monday May 9"

I have two finals tomorrow and then I plan on calling them up. However, does this email basically mean that I would most likely get in if I chose the PAM major? Is it unlikely for me to get into the Economics major now? Are job prospects similar for PAM majors?

Did anyone else get a similar email?

you will probably get in. It is a very good sign.

I cannot help you with most of your questions, but I do know that Human Ecology is much easier to get into than Arts & Sciences–for transfers A&S is more like other Ivy schools in terms of very low transfer admit rates. I know PAM majors who love it (I’m in A&S here) and the PAM seniors I know all seem to have good job prospects. I would definitely contact them, because it sounds like you would be considered for both A&S and Hum Ec (you can apply to two colleges in freshman admission as well), so if you really want to get into Cornell, I would take advantage of the opportunity.

Kristev4:

Sadly, I would not be considered for both. It seems as though I have two choices:

 1. Possibly get in as an Economics major
 2. Definitely get in as a PAM major.

I’m able to log in to housing but I haven’t sent out any emails regarding a change of intended major to PAM.

Does this mean that I have probably gotten into the Economics major? I’m pretty sure I would rather come in as Econ.
