Did anyone else get a threatening email from health services regarding their immunization record? I am very confused because the letter said they were going to put a stop on my DS’s account and he would be unable to register for classes because he was non-compliant. However, the form they asked us to send to our Doctor and turn in says the due date is July 15. I’m not sure how he is non-compliant when the form is two months from being due.
All students have to turn in their immunization record by July 15. The email was just a reminder; your son account will be frozen if the record is not received by July 15. I’d imagine that they’re sending the email this early this year because last year, there were problems at orientation where we had dozens of students who could not register because their accounts were suspended.
Thanks @HeyItsNick The email made it seem like his account had already been frozen instead would be frozen. While I think immunizations are very important and I am glad they take it seriously, I do not think the first contact from Student Health Services should be so threatening and negative in tone. A simple this is a reminder to turn X information in by July 15 or your account will be suspended would have sufficed. Instead, they implied his account had already been suspended. The way an organization communicates with its customers is important and this was a poor first impression. It does not give me a lot of faith in Student Health Services and makes me wonder if I should find a PCP for my student outside of Health Services.
@sahmkc You definitely should. My interactions with the Student Health Center have all been negative. The fall of my freshman year, I went in because I was throwing up and my forehead was warm and the staff member told me that I had a cold and was okay. Didn’t even take my temperature. I ended up going to the emergency room a few hours later where I had a temperature of 103.4 and was diagnosed with a bad case of the flu.
They’re nice people but absolutely incompetent in my opinion. Funny story, I know someone who went in for stomach pain or something and they kept telling her she was likely pregnant. The only thing is that she was a lesbian with no sexual activity whatsoever with guys which she told them multiple times. They simply do not listen and just like to refer people out.
On topic of a PCP, I’d recommend finding one at MedStar Georgetown. Mine is there along with most of the people I know who have one.
@HeyItsNick Thank you so much for your honesty! I will definitely look into MedStar Georgetown.
Update - I was finally able to reach a real human being in the Student Health Center and apparently they send out one mass email to everyone - new and current students. So if you are incoming Freshman a “Stop” has not been put on your account and you will be able to enroll. If your forms are not in by July 15 that’s when the “Stop” will happen.
Students also go the the Minute Clinic at the CVS in Tenleytown.
