Email Mishap?

When I submitted my Candidate Profile, my mom was planning to apply for financial aid, but our situation changed. So, today, my mom was sending emails to schools saying that we are no longer applying for financial aid. However, when she sent an email to one school, she pressed “forward” and added the second school’s emails to the send bar, and so on. So she unknowingly created an email chain where some schools could view her emails to other schools.

I know there’s nothing to be done now, and I don’t think this is something huge to be worried about, since it’s just the same email to each school. But could it be considered a turnoff or put me in a negative light?

With financial aid and admissions being separate I wouldn’t worry too much.

I think it is also the kind of thing they wouldn’t care about anyway, and you didn’t do it your mom did. So this is at least 3 levels separated from anyone caring or probably even knowing. This belongs as #800 on your list of things to worry about!

It will have no impact on your application. The important thing is that you put your mom on notice…“this sort of sloppiness will not be tolerated again, mother!”

If it makes you feel any better, I did something even dumber when my son applied. In his Andover application parent essay, I wrote how pleased I would be if my son were to “enroll at Exeter”. I basically cut and pasted the same essay from his Exeter application to the Andover one.

He was accepted nonetheless. I’m sure they see this type of mistake all the time. Especially with parents like me who are in a hurry.

Bottom line: don’t worry about it. I don’t think it will make any difference.
