Email professors for High school lab internship?

I’m extremely interested in doing lab research over biochem, but I don’t know when to email the professors in my area over possibly interning in their labs during the school year or next summer. Also, how would I email the professors and convince them to take me on because I don’t really have science ECs besides an internship at the Dallas Arboretum. Please name other suggestions for where to do bio chem or medical research in the DFW area.

I’m about to be a High school Junior.

  1. If you’re looking for the school year ('17-'18) I’d suggest nearing the end of the summer, or maybe even earlier (earlier the better) as if you wait too long to start emailing, undergrads will be taking your spot in research labs and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a professor who’s lab isn’t already full.

  2. You don’t need to have all these science EC’s. None of them really help for research anyways. If you want to impress professors, read a lot of their research papers so you have a good idea of their projects, and mention those topics when you email them, tell them why you like that topic, why is it intellectual stimulating, and they’ll be impressed since research papers are difficult to read for anyone, and that way they’ll know that you care. Better yet, once you read the papers, have a few questions to ask.

  3. I have no clue where to find you a professor, sorry you’re going to have to do that on your own.
