Email

Whats the difference between the "email malibox" and "email address"? Which one do ppl use if tehy wanna send me something?

The one that's your email is the one WITHOUT the server (casbah, hecky, lulu or the other one.) So.. people would address to the username@northwestern.edu

i activated my netid and got a hecky server. then i went to that directory.northwestern.edu site and tried my netid in the box and it said no matches were found...im so confused. why cant we just get normal e-mails. im confused

It is only confusing in the beginning. Your netid is the small one that's like "dsf437". You can search for your netid at http://directory.northwestern.edu/index.cgi?a=1 and see if it shows up- just make sure you use the netid box. Similarly, try logging in to your mailserver to see if it works.

Your email is quite normal. It is initial-lastname@northwestern. You can change the initial-lastname to whatever you want (I took out my hyphen because I don't like hyphens).

I went to me hecky account and there was a message giving me my @northwestern.edu e-mail address. My questions are: 1) How do I check this account, and 2) Where will important messages be sent? To the hecky account, or to the @northwestern.edu account?

1 & 2) You already did... the @northwestern.edu and the @hecky.it.northwestern.edu are the same account.

i'm sure this sounds stupid, but how do i check my email?

http://www.northwestern.edu/webmail/

Click on your server, then log in with your netid and password
