I visited a college recently and sent an email to the respective college representative last Monday; however, I haven’t received a response yet. In addition, I forgot to send a subject in the email, should I be worried or re-send the email with a subject?
Was your email just a thank you? Or did you ask a question? Was it a good question, or something that is easily answered by looking on the school’s website?
PM asks good questions. Don’t suck up to admissions reps is the warning. Hopefully you’re not doing this. Regardless, if you have a legit question or simply wish to convey thank you, go ahead and email again. It’s really nothing that they’ve not replied back to you. Nothing to fret about whatsoever
I might guess that if it’s not on their website then they haven’t finalized the schedule yet (unless they have a really pathetic website). Is there a place you can add your name to be notified when things are announced? The busy people probably don’t want to be answering perhaps 100s of questions like that.
No, don’t email again. My kid discovered that hardly any reps emailed back, despite being told it was a good way for her to express interest. In fact, reap only responded to emails once she had actually applied and needed to make a couple of corrections to her app. Save emails for really important questions, and then cc the regular admissions email too. Express interest by requesting an interview. Don’t worry, one email isn’t going to put you on a blacklist. You don’t want them thinking you are being a nuisance.
They could be (wait for it) on vacation. I would wait a few more days, then direct the same email to the general college admissions email. Let them know that you emailed the rep and didn’t hear back, and thought it would be a good idea to ask at the general admissions email. Just FYI, sometimes they change reps and the website doesn’t get updated – people quit, move to different regions, go on leave for family or medical reasons, etc. So don’t take it personally if they don’t answer, and if you don’t get an answer by next week, ask the general admissions email. They will either answer or forward it to the appropriate rep.
I definitely agree that reps can smell a “non-question” a mile away. But this one seems like a reasonable question.
Pick up the phone and call the admission office to ask. Someone who answers the phone should have the answer or know who does. I wouldn’t bother the admissions rep about something so basic like the open house time.
My experience has been that they do not reply to emails - even after they have personally given you their business cards and ask you to contact them. DS is taking some schools off his list because of this action. I think that they are afraid to put anything in writing and be held to it.
