So, a couple of us (I saw someone asking about them on the Admissions forum) got these cute little notes from Bryn Mawr.

It has the whole “you’re working really hard, if you have any questions” speech but it also has a sentence or so about your essay.

Does everyone get these? I figured we all do… It’s really nice, and I admit it, it does make me love Bryn Mawr a little bit more (and that’s presumably what they’re supposed to do).

Someone thought they sound like ‘likely letters’ and although it would be great to get something like a ‘likely letter,’ I really doubt that’s what it is. It’s probably just BMC being the awesomely cool LAC that it is, right?

I just got an email from the Director of Admissions. It was short but very personal. It definitely was not an email that she could have sent another person, as well. It was really nice and talked about how impressed she was with me and how I should consider Bryn Mawr. It ended saying that admissions decisions would be mailed at the end of March. I also got an email about a week ago from the tennis coach telling me about the tennis program. I really love how personal Bryn Mawr is. Too bad my parents don't seem willing to pay for it!

gub- Well, you don't know how much they'll offer you yet. The definitely have good financial aid- I wouldn't have applied if they didn't. Hopefully it will all turn out well.

I don't know, I think mine could have been sent to more than one person. Sure, it had personal parts, but the one sentence about me could be chopped out and another sentence added, and it could be for someone else. Maybe more than one type of email was sent? (Haha, it just sounds like yours is much more like a 'likely letter' than mine would be...)

There's definitely been several times through the whole admissions process that I just wanted to take a train over the Philly and hug everyone in their admissions office. Like when they sent me the print version of the CSS non-custodial profile! I was told a print copy of it wouldn't be available, and my dad won't put financial information on the computer (and he doesn't have a computer) so that would have been so... baaad. But then here comes Bryn Mawr, to the rescue!

By the way, are you going to email her? I might if I am accepted but I really don't want to fall over-in-love with BMC before getting my later... I hope it doesn't come off as not caring.

Inspiration- I just got mine this afternoon at around 3- did you check yours when you read the thread? Sorry if you didn't get one... If it makes you feel better, during mid-march last year, some applicants got phone calls from Bryn Mawr to say they got in (a couple days before letters arrived). Some people were accepted even though they didn't get a call- maybe it's like that. I don't think it's a sign or anything. Some people think it might be a likely letter, but I don't have that much faith it in, haha. I guess we'll find out later this month.

Haha I was the person that asked in the main forum. I agree, it was SO cute. I knew it wasn't only sent to me (there were a lot of generic bits at the end) but there were a few personalised sentences that made me wonder if they would put that effort in if they weren't considering me? I loved all of their "calm down" emails before the deadline as well :) Oh, Bryn Mawr, I'm already in love. I'd better get in now.

And inspiration08, I agree with brillar, I don't think it's a likely letter any more as much as just a nice gesture, and I got my email before she did so maybe yours just hasn't come yet or they haven't gotten to your file yet?

I kind of wanted to email her after reading it, because the last line made it seem like she was expecting a reply (looking forward to communicate with you or something). I'm not sure what I would say/ask but I agree, I don't want to come off as not caring.

And gub, yours sounds more like a definite likely letter than brillar's and mine :) Btw brillar, are you international? Because mine was sent by someone who works in international admissions.

I'm sure she definitely sent similar letters to a lot of people. It began with one generic sentence. Then three personal ones that she couldn't have said to anyone else. And then two generic ones at the end. I replied thanking her and stating my interest in Bryn Mawr. I'm really impressed that it came from the Director of Admissions. That's part of why I love Bryn Mawr. They probably don't send emails to everyone they accept. Or maybe they do. I just doubt that they would take the effort to email someone and then reject them.

I got one of these and I would say it was pretty personal. They talked about my coursework, congratulated me on my involvement with one of my activities, asked me to get in contact with people in the the depts. that I want to be part of, and put a lot of exclamation marks! This really excited me because BMC is on of my tops although after getting scholarships to other schools I, like gub, don't think my parents will pay for it. I really really hope these e-mails are likely letters but I don't want to work myself up for a major let down. Yet, I think that it would be very very cruel to send someone what sounds like a likely letter only to shut them down which doesn't sound like BMC. If they were going make everyone feel good about applications they would put something like "We were impressed with blah blah blah in your application however..." in the rejection letters. Another point is that this was a lot like the personal letter that came with the admission package I got from a school that gave me a great scholarship!! So I think people getting letters should be excited but take it all in stride and the people who didn't shouldn't be extremely worried.

haha...I also got a letter from the tennis coach since I did tennis for a year!! Seems like gub in I share a lot in common as far as BMC goes. Tell me if you get in! :D

Nopers, I'm not international, but I'm pretty sure we got ours from the same person. Maybe the different writers are the cause for the different styles of letters?

UGH still debating wether I should reply or not. I think I will... not tonight, but tomorrow after musical practice, I guess. Probably won't make much of a difference, but BMC has been so nice to me so I'll send them something.

I think I know why those of us who got letters got them from the people we did...

Different admissions officers are in charge of different regions, so you got a letter from the one for your region. For example, I am in Lancaster (central PA) so I got one from Jennifer Russel.

Some admissions officers wrote more, some wrote less... That's why the notes are different, I think.

I still don't know what it means... I'd think that Froghorn would have gotten one if they were likely letters. She's definitely more likely to get in somewhere else and go than I am! Weird.

Seems it happened last year, too. As far as I can tell there were tons that were accepted without any communication, but the ones that got emails seemed to also get acceptances... (Maybe I'm just too hopeful?)

the thread brillar linked us to (actually from two years ago) seems to indicate that girls got BMC decisions around March 25-26, and plenty of girls who did not get likely letters/emails were accepted.

thanks, brillar! now i feel much better and i also have hope that the final decisions will arrive a bit sooner than april 1!
