Hi! I have a question about intended college majors... the teachers who wrote my recommendations know that I have always been interested in bio, but now for my intended major I am thinking of putting down cultural studies. Many of the colleges I'm applying to require me to write an essay/paragraph about my intended major. I was thinking of writing about cultural studies because I have so many more things to say. However, I am afraid that in my teachers' recommendations, they wrote about my interest in bio. I had to fill out a questionnaire for them and I told them I was thinking of majoring in bio and perhaps becoming a doctor. So my question is, is it really bad if for all of my essays about intended majors, I write about cultural studies, but my teachers talked about how I like bio? Would that make it seem like I'm being dishonest or something? I'm really worried! Thank you soooo much!

Ask them if they mentioned your potential major in their letters of recommendation. That way you will know whether or not you even need to wonder about this.

Then write the essays that you want to write. Students change their majors all the time, and the admissions officers know it. You won’t be in trouble if your recs say you are interested in a major that you don’t want any more.

My teachers did mention my potential major, but now I want to completely change it. Would college admissions think that is very bad, because of the sudden change? Bio to cultural studies is pretty extreme… Thank you!

No. This kind of stuff happens all the time.

And who knows what your major will be by the time you actually graduate.

Take a deep breath. Write the essays. Get on with your life.

You could also mention in your essay that you also have a strong interest in bio, but keep the emphasis on your current interest.
It won’t matter in any case. 17 year-olds aren’t expected to have their majors set in stone!
