Unfortunately found these boards rather late in the process and have many regrets after all the late night reading. Can anyone give any insight on the Emerson BFA MT major as compared to Wagner? Also I see no mention on these boards of the BFA at Kean University any info there would be appreciated. I know that We are lucky to have even those choices in this grueling process. Thanks
@MTstress Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the program will respond. My D was accepted to Emerson for BFA acting but declined because she wanted MT. Congratulations. I can tell you Boston is an amazing college town. As for comparing schools it’s really not possible unless you attended all three. I think the three schools have very different campus feelings. Good luck with your decision.
Emerson and Wagner are both well respected programs. I am not familiar with Kean. As @Ducky312 said, I think the campuses are very different. whenever you have a big choice like that, I think its good to list the pros and cons for each and see which rises to the top with the most “pros”. Include things that are important to your student (location, dorms, friends, cost, classes, alumni success, academics, greek life, summer programs, travel abroad, etc.) I also like the suggestion of someone here to print out the curriculums for each, hiding school names, and see which appeals most to your student based solely on what they will be studying. Once you receive financial info, really compare costs and have an honest discussion with your student if any school would require a more significant burden on you or them and how you all feel about that. Lastly, do what you are doing and try to get firsthand accounts from people who’ve attended or are still attending. Sounds like you have some nice choices. Best wishes in making a decision!
Wagner would give you a more “traditional” college experience than Emerson, Emerson had a very urban campus (which is something my D liked, but not everyone does)
First of all, congratulations on your offers!!! I am committing to Emerson so it’s always exciting to hear about potential classmates! I’m going to try not to sound biased, but obviously that’ll be hard. I would say that another difference is size of the program. I may be crazy but if I recall correctly, Wagner’s MT class is around 30 kids? Emersons is between 14-18. If this is important to you, Emerson is a more academically prestigious school, like the name is more well known. As someone else said though, Wagner will give you much more of the traditional college campus experience. I also think Wagner has more dance immediately available to you. For example, with Emerson, you have to either waive some credits like math or foreign language (if you took 4 years of it in HS) in order to take tap, or take it outside of school in the city. I THINK Wagner has tap already built into the curriculum. Honestly they are both strong just in very different ways in my opinion. I would investigate the curriculum sheets VERY carefully. And if you can, I would visit both. Also I think as someone else said, you could just wait for FA to come in and see how the dust has settled, letting cost be a big deciding factor. Wishing you much luck on this decision!! (Also, if your D or S wants to be added to a group chat of accepted Emerson MT’s, PM me!)
