Update. Yesterday was Accepeted Transfers Event Day. We learned that average GPA was 3.39, that they received more than 800 applications, so it was more than precedent years. More than 30% come from a community college. Lisa, the Transfer Admision Director, which whom my son stayed in contact for two years, made the welcome speach. She was also welcoming applicants at the front door, recognizing some of them. Each applicant had a folder with his name, his major and a table number. After the welcome speach, we were separated. Parents with career office, fin aid, housing… representatives; students with their peers depending their major. They also met with fin aid representative, housing, and with actual students in their field of study. In conclusion, it was well organized. We went to all 3 “accepted students event day” where my son was accepted, and it was the best. I was able to discuss the fact that we did not receive the FA package yet. We realized that there was a glitch in the sytsme. They were waiting for a document we sent April 3. So they cleared it of and assured us that he will receive his package next week. I learned something that I should know: merit scholarship is decided by admision office, so by Transfer Admission Director. It gave me some hope because Lisa told my son that she was the person who decide scholarship and she encouraged him to continue to work as well as he was. She asked him to tell her when he will apply if Emerson was his first choice, what he did. So, I hope that she gave him the Next Step Emerson Scholarship !!! So Admissions decide the scholarship, they pass it to FA office who works with Fafsa and CSS profile and send the total package when they are done. I will update next week. Now it’s between Suffolk and Emerson. We are turning down BU.
Final update. It has been a long journey ! We received the FA package today, and the deadline deposit is today. My son will go to Emerson with 25500 as aid, 18K Emerson grant and 7500 loans. I hope you are all happy with your final decision and I wish you the best of luck in your new school.
