Hi everyone! I might be transferring to Emerson next year in the fall, and I’ll be commuting. I know that’s kind of a deadly combo but seeing as I live in Boston there’s no way I’m paying that much to stay in the dorms. I love the school but a lot of people online say there’s no real sense on community at the school. I was just wondering if any current or past students could tell me a bit more about the school?
My D is a student there, in the acting program, my S is applying as a transfer for fall 2017 as a VMA, writing for film and TV. THERE IS a sense of community. My D loves Emerson. There are plenty of ECs opportunities. She is in the 2 dance companies, in the EVVY board, sponsorship department…etc . Being an orientation leader helped her to connect with students from different majors. You have to seize all the opportunities to be part of the community. They have a FB page and new accepted students start to communicate very quickly. My D made a friend before her arriving and they are still friends, planning to take an apartment with 4 others next year. So there definietly is a sense of community at Emerson.
Another parent whose D loves the Emerson community. Boston is a big city, but every time we are up to see her she’s always passing people on the streets she knows. Get involved and do things and there is ample opportunity to meet people. My D, a second semester Freshman, has several different “friend groups”…moreso through her classes/major (BCE), extra-curriculars (catlalib…my D is in the Emerson Urban Dance Theatre so our girls surely know each other. She’s excited to be staying for the EVVYs!), and acquaintances than through the dorms. Good luck!
Hi @CNK624. Yep, my D is in the EUDT company, as a treasurer and dancer. We saw each show because we live nearby. @jucar95 I hope you made your decision for next year if you already received your decision from Emerson. We are still waiting to hear back from them for my S. Good luck.
