I applied to 10 schools and got accepted to 7. When I applied, NYU was such a out-of-reach school for me, I didn't expect to get any money from them, or maybe even get in. Over the weekend I got accepted and got a scholarship that makes the school just $2700 a year more than Emerson.
I've pretty much had my heart set on Emerson for a while because I didn't think NYU was even an option. LMU was also an option, but I'm leaning away from that now because of airfare that would make the cost close to NYU.

I absolutely loved the vibes I got from Emerson (and of course the awesome extra-curriculars, the EVVY's, and their Los Angeles program), but when I visited NYU I didn't really feel anything. Again, that also might have been because I visited expecting I would never be able to go there. I was trying to not get my hopes up.

Tisch is... the best of the best for film. I'll be visiting again ASAP.

My son was accepted to Emerson and was waitlisted at NYU back in 2007. He was all set to attend Emerson, especially after attending accepted students day. Emerson has a very good program and the LA program is a nice option. About 1 week after paying his Emerson deposit, he got accepted to NYU off the waitlist.

He decided to attend NYU and loved the program. He was able to focus on Cinematography and was able to spend a semester abroad in Prague without falling behind. He made a lot of connections and is enjoying the film scene in NY.

Did you visit NYU for their Weekend on the Square event for accepted students? Perhaps you would have gotten a better sense of the school and the Tisch Film community. My son was accepted as well but couldn’t make it to NYC for that event. He also was accepted to Emerson with merit scholarship. As of today, he’s pretty sure he’ll go to NYU. He loved Emerson (we live in the Boston suburbs) but he had such a great experience at Tisch Film summer program last year that he wants to go back. New York City is a real draw if you like the intensity - seriously, never a dull moment…

My daughter was accepted to both Emerson and NYU and some others. Although Boston is a great city, it just can’t compare with the opportunities in NYC. She chose NYU and is very happy and constantly busy filming, if not for class, then on independent film projects with other NYU students or alumni. If film is your passion, then NYU is the place to be. She’s also interning this summer in LA, so just because you choose NYU, doesn’t mean you can’t get to spend time in LA.
