Bright Eyes are not emo either haha. Its really more of a folk-y indie/alternative rock band. Emo really is not much of a genre since most the bands considered emo are not called emo because of the sound of the music, rather the people that listen to it and the lyrics. Pop music can have sappy lyrics. Would Britney Spears be considered emo?

bright eyes blows

and beyond music, emo is a way of dressing and "being" too,... like punk or goth have their own crowds
i belong to the lighter end of the emo throng... sometimes described as glam/emo,
it seems like my school has been taken over by emo, raver, glam, gloomy, all sorts of variations on the emo trend. i like it

There are different variations on the emo trend? I think I understand the other "sub headings," but what about glam? What's that?

"but you do have to admit a lot of it is nasaly white boys singing about depression." that may be so but what do other song have to offer? arnt 97% of them involving sex or drugs
or some kind of nonmoral thoughts it may be one of the few kinds of music that has SOME thought or feeling left in it. Dont get me wrong I lesson to all kinds of music like rap rock punk spanish techno and others but what other kind of music has that much emotion
into a single song

holy **** it's listen, not lesson
i'm not a ****ing spelling nazi or anything but seriously you can do it i know you can i have faitthhh

Ever listened to Johnny Cash?

only to his nine inch nails cover. oh my, i've said something worthy of getting shot at, huh? haha, forgive my ignorance. something soothing about the deepness and graveliness of his voice though.

hawthorne heights? bright eyes? death cab for cutie? they've got nothing on tom waits or gregory isaacs.

Hawthorne Heights- Ohio is for Lovers- I personally feel it's one of their worst songs.
But have you ever seen them live? They're pretty decent.

As for emo... Emo has evolved into a sell-out. It's not like the shows and music used to be. Everything now is this whiny, lost love music. Just going to a Dashboard show four years ago and one now, it's a COMPLETE turn-around.

My bf works for a concert venue and record company and is pretty tight with My Chemical Romance. He was talking to Gerard of My Chem about them going on TRL. Why? Because you can't turn down MTV. They're all in it for the money now, and who can blame them. What band doesn't want to go big and make $$.

Oy, the divisions of rock music. Emo, glam, hxc, ska, sxc, punk, pop-punk, screamo, emo-core... idk where to start on that.

Just listen to what you enjoy. Everyone has different tastes. Let's not get so critical.
