I agree with @Ringaling, my student’s impression was that being admitted to Emory was the larger hurdle and that if a student was able to complete the prerequisites well that they would get into the business school. Dual majored in math and finance and had job offers from two of the boutiques listed above. The Goizueta Career Management Center is very strong and provides support and guidance to pre BBA students.
How did you take 23 APs?
We’re a cut throat PHS, offer 20+ APs, also took some ap at virtual school. Kids will have to take 20+ APs to get a decent GPA ranking, unfortunately.
Hi @4suits: How could you tell what the wait list number was? My D was waitlisted at Oxford. But we couldn’t tell from the email.
I actually got off the waitlist in 2020 and got a 10k/yr merit scholarship! I applied before the merit scholarship deadline tho so i think youd have to have done that. Also this was in 2020 when they accepted a lot of students off the waitlist so idk if that impacted it
EMORY GAVE ME 15K A YEAR. I think this just swayed my decision.
best luck to everyone!
@pickles3214 Congratulations!! May I ask how you received news about financial aid/scholarships? Admitted DD still has no information, as of April 1. It seems somewhat strange. Usually the package/offer comes with admission announcement (or you at least are instructed how you’ can expect to access it).
You have to login to Opus. I think if you click on the admitted students link and click on financial aid it’s buried in their somewhere that financial aid decisions will show up in opus 24-48 hours after admission decision. There is also a link to Opus there. It was actually also in the email notifying when decisions would come out (didn’t notice that until we went back and checked).Saw this morning that D also received 15k grant.
Where were you deciding between
Rejected from main campus but waitlisted from Oxford, what’s my chances of getting off the waitlist for Oxford? I got a 1420 SAT, 3.67UW/4.37W and top 10% of my class. I also have very strong EC with three sports and leadership roll in my music program as well as making All Regional State Band
No one can tell you for sure - but last year Emory WL a ton - 5200. 2900 accepted. Over 400 offered a spot.
My D had much better stats then yours - didn’t get off. So many offered admission - over 400 but that’s because most turn them down.
I would count a WL as a rejection. Send your letter in - but fall in love with the schools that showed you love to begin with - because that’s where you’ll likely end up.
I promise you, many kids do this and when the acceptance comes later, they’ve smartly already moved on.
Love those that love you back.
I know people were asking the Emory numbers. Here is the article:
I also should have shared this for those now heading to Emory:
Cmu or Emory
Yeah main campus acceptance rate was like 10.5-11% this year
Both campuses were pretty close to that figure - of course 1400+ have double acceptances. It will be interesting to see how it goes and if they touch the WL this year. PreCovid that answer was no forever. Covid through everyone for a loop. Last year meant too many people on the campuses so be i am curious. When I went to my orientation I clearly remember the President Laney (later Ambassador) saying the goal was for everyone of us to have children that listed Emory first and for people to be knocking at the door of BJones to come. Guess we are well past that point.
Hmm its a difficult one. CMU is better for more quanty things if you’re into very math-y things like prop-trading but very few undergrads go into that. Emory is better for general finance paths and investment banking which a lot more people go into. For consulting they are about equal at the undergrad level with emory having a minor edge due to Atlanta. The differences are unsurmountable though so you should choose on fit. I personally chose Emory over CMU because Emory seemed like a more relaxed and pleasant college experience. Its a chilled out vibe and campus and the weather is great. Also Atlanta haha so that’s what drew me. CMU is not a bad experience btw but Emory just seemed like a better experience for me. Both are fairly academic schools as both are D3 but Emory seemed like a better balance. Although you can find parties in both places
thank you! I’ m leaning towards emory as well;)
Our daughter is deciding between a few schools including Emory. We are on the west coast and Emory didn’t move up her list until very late, and we have not visited. We booked a last-minute trip this week (the only time she could get out) but all available tours are booked so we are crashing the campus on our own.
Any insights into things we shouldn’t miss? And for any students or parents that have done a hosted tour, what were some of the high (or low) points that stuck out to you? Trying to make the trip count as much as possible and really give her more to weigh in her decision. Thanks for any info you can share!
