Emory Admissions Regular Decision Fall 2022

You are but guaranteed a full ride that is the Woodruff. You will go through interviews and other experiences. Emory will decide which named scholarship (there are many worth different amounts) or unnamed merit award you will receive. You are simply one finalist candidate at this point. Congrats on that.

Yes it’s probably the best thing but people would complain they were never told anything or the school has poor communicating avenues. Guess in the initial application they could simply say finalists will be notified leaving the assumption if you hear nothing you are not a finalist rather than sending a letter.

Realistically with a less than 2% (200/11,000) no one should expect to be a finalist. Your chances of getting into a HYPSM school are greater. Time to move on and see what happens in March.

Exactly what mine said last night.

I think the notification thing comes from the history of the program. I graduated HS in 1990. At that time there was ED1 and RD. The current scholarship program is about 40 years old (41) so it was a very new program then. How did it work? High Schools in the Atlanta area could nominate up to four students for Scholarship Decision. Yes Scholarship Decision. Other schools could also nominate but I don’t know the process since I was Atlanta. Those that were nominated would receive their Emory decision in February. I got in in February. I was not a finalist. There wasn’t other merit in the same way either so you either heard then accepted to emory, accepted as a finalist, rejected Emory, referred to Oxford, referred to Oxford as a scholarship finalist or deferred until April 1. At the time Emory did not accept Common App and Oxford and Emory had different admission paperwork and you paid twice so most only applied to one. If referred the fees were waived. I think some of that history remains in how the finalists are notified with the additional piece that other merit money can be received now without being a finalist.

She didn’t get rejected. I know it is hard not to take these things personally. My daughter also didn’t get honors. Only about 1% of applicants get it. If she does get into Emory, she will be happy.

Did anyone get an email asking to update SAT/ACT scores? I did test-optional but heard few received an email today about updating the score.

I did not but I submitted test optional as well.

Anyone have an idea about when we can expect RD decisions?

March 23 or 24? Best guess based on prior years.

In general Emory gives all admissions on the Wednesday prior to the last date they say they will notify by at 6pm (occasionally it has been two weeks prior). The only exception to that in recent admissions times would be this year and ED1 which came out on the very last day. They had more ED1 applications than they were expecting and needed to get through. Also remember that both campuses review separately but the letter comes as one so both campuses must complete the process. ED2 this year followed the normal progression of one week early so the best guess would be one week prior to 4/1 on the Wednesday. It will be announced all over Emory’s (and Oxford) social media.

So does that suggest Wednesday 3/23 at 6pm or Wednesday 3/30?

That would be a pretty good prediction as the most logical dates yes. Could they pull this Wednesday from a hat - sure but that would be less likely for sure. The 23rd would be a best guest based on the past ten years. The 30th would be an outlier but it happened for ED1 so…

This is a strange question, but do any RD applicants have “dots” next to their green checklist? There was a discussion about students having them, others not. Some stated dots on other apps they had was an acceptance for them. Just interesting to me.

do you mean like right next to the green checkmarks?

Yes

A student was stating their theory was dots=acceptance. Wondered if any hi stats students have no dots.

I’d consider my stats to be slightly lower than the typical accepted student and I have the dots. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure those have always been there

Interesting. I have no dots and don’t consider myself extremely hi stat. Wonder what they mean.

They’ve been a fun diversion. Good luck. Maybe we will know Wed?
