Did you guys send first MP grades to emory?
Does MP mean mid-year report? If it is, you should have to submit it by 1/27; however if it doesn’t come out by that day, you need your counselor to write a letter to the admission office to indicate your current situation.
My school automatically sends mid year reports to all schools we’ve applied to. But our mid-year grades don’t come out until this week, so now I’m worried!!!
My “to-do” list has the date for mid terms grades as 2/15. Also, why is the admit rate for ED2 so low… lower then for regular decision? I didn’t know this until after I applied. :((
That was just for that year. For all we know, they will accept a lot more kids this year! And yeah, I never heard that the Mid-Year report was due by 1/27, since my grades for the second quarter just came out today. My guidance counselor called and Emory said it just needed to be at the school by 2/15
@friday28 : RD and ED2 are usually about the same. Could partially come from the fact that Emory (or any school) wants to give RD candidates a chance. Filling the class with over 50% ED is probably not ideal to the adcoms at Emory as they tend to be less diverse socioeconomically and perhaps academically (Many who apply ED to Emory for example may do so for its more stereotypical or extremely well known strengths such as business and pre-medicine. Through RD, you may have the chance to recruit those who are considering it for other strengths or offerings that often do not get as much attention with regards to building Emory’s reputation).

According to the Emory Wheel, the projected class size is 1350 and they have already admitted 478 through EDI. We know they don’t want to admit more then 50% through ED I & II. That leaves197 spaces for ED II. There were 1244 EDII applicants which makes the admit rate 15.8%. Am I wrong? I hope so!!

Your # looks to be correct based in what is represented in the Wheel article. What’s even tighter is the RD rate. If the 50% of admit offers for ED applicants is correct, that would imply a RD rate of 3.8% (675/17,980). My son is in the RD pool with ACT of 33, gpa 4.15w, athlete recruited by the coaches who indicated they will support, but have no idea whether he will clear admissions given the competitiveness of the pool and he didn’t apply ED. Hope we are missing something in the math on this
Unlike ED, the RD applicants are not committed to accepting so…I think the RD rate should be around 11%… they will accept approximately 3 x’s the number they are looking to enroll (yield is around 30%). Once you remove ED and EDII applicants there are around 18,000 left. The will admit approximately 2,050 of those. Not very encouraging. Again, I hope I’m wrong!
@friday28 - thanks. My mistake was commingling ED w/ RD and not lowering the yield down from 100%. Understand now the RD admit rate would be about 11% as you’ve shown. Still not great odds but hoping for the best 
@friday28 and @Niner9 : I don’t think so, the total amount of admits will almost always be 4400-4700. They will get 90-100% yield from the first 1/2 of admits, it is the 2nd half (RD) where Emory will naturally do poorly (like many non-Ivies), given this, they will admit a bit more than 3x the amount they need to fill the class looking for an OVERALL yield of about 30% (again, ED rounds give them wiggle room in RD). Emory hardly ever decreases the amount admitted per year, it pretty much just lets its rate drop or increase with the app numbers. Some years it did increase when the app. numbers dropped because they admitted the same amount of students as before. Based upon history, Emory does not seem like the type of school that just takes advantage of the higher app. numbers as a reason to even further deflate their admit rate by simply admitting less; though if they played that stupid game, no doubt the rank would benefit. However, what should be more important is actually getting good students (perhaps shifting away from some of the academically boring/dull “work hard, play hard” types. Makes Emory seem like another Duke or Vandy w/o D-1. Could have a much richer intellectual environment if school didn’t sell itself that way).
Thanks Bernie12. Your insight is so helpful. So with that news, RD should be around 22% admit rate. Unfortunately EDII, I believe, will still be around 15%. Overall admit rate around 23% with EDI having 38%, EDII 15% and RD 22%. sigh…
Does anyone know the exact date/time we will be finding out? Has anyone received any emails about this? I haven’t gotten any emails about being an ED ii applicant so I was worried something went wrong.
Wow, considering changing from ED2 to RD after reading that information. Am I wrong in seeing no advantage in terms of admissions to applying Early Decision 2?
there’s definitely still an advantage to applying EDII. The EDII pool will be less competitive than the RD pool as there are many more applicant for RD. So, you’ll stand out more for EDII and have a better chance of getting in. You have high stats and they are not going to want to wonder if you will accept. EDII is binding so they will like that. But that’s just my two cents.
Thanks, and I appreciate the advice. It just sucks that they don’t admit more people from ED2… such a small number accepted from a pool of people willing to use a binding admission plan
