I thought I’d make this thread for anyone else who applied ED2 to Emory since we’re only two weeks away from decisions.
Was waiting for this thread to be made.
Decision date seems so far away … I keep stressing over my app but at this point we just have to wait!
Decisions come out February 15th right? I know the scholars is said to be earlier, but does that change our date?
How many ppl usually apply ED2 and whats the percentage of getting in?
@ohcollegeidk : Doesn’t matter how many apply more so than their credentials (which we have no way of knowing) and the admit rate. The admit rate is usually the same as the overall or RD admit rate for ED2. ED1 is starting to creep downward toward conversion with the overall admit rate as well but that seems like it is only because more student applied this year.
From what I’ve seen, ED2 has a lower admit rate because the applicants tend to be slightly less qualified (Ivy-caliber applicants just apply regular because they’ll likely get in). Personally, I only waited for ED2 because my mid-year grades were some of my best and I wanted more time to complete the application.
Regardless, as bernie12 said I’m pretty sure any individual’s qualifications will matter more than the applicants/admit rate.
@bernie12 @lividcreations oh ok. sounds good! do you know when the decisions come out? is it still the 15th? or earlier? good luck to both of you!
@lividcreations : You mean HYP caliber applicants? Some Brown, Dartmouth, and Cornell applicants can very well be denied or wait-listed by Emory as well, even if they were a match for those schools (or Emory)…you are guaranteed nothing at these schools, and Emory, despite the higher admit rate is particularly random because it is likely taking into account yield possibilities as well. It may admit the excellent student that is not a statistical match for other places and pass the high stats folks up (as suggested by the unusually high amount of Pell Grant students it admits or the amount of QB matches it has). Some schools at least correlate very nicely with stats, but Emory and the 3 I just mentioned are certainly not among them.
The idea that someone who isn’t a legacy or heavy donor family can just expect a bid from any elite school I find baffling and have always found kind of arrogant. Certainly a good school for an excellent student, but no one should expect to get in a top 20-25 for example (unless they are in state and the school is public). Should be more like grad school. You get excited, but don’t have expectations and be grateful if any make you an offer. All this, “but this top ranked school is not elite enough” business is kind of sickening (then why apply? Apply to ones that you are interested in and not most of them with mindset of “if I don’t get in elsewhere I will just go here even if I am not really interested and have only done superficial research on because it has a high rank”…so stupid! lol).
@ohcollegeidk The decisions will most likely come out on the 15th at 6PM. Good luck to you too!
@bernie12 Emory does seem to value an applicant’s talent and characteristics more than the numbers. Selective college admissions as a whole is so random now; there’s really no formula as to who’ll get in and where. You could be denied at Harvard and accepted at Yale; a lot of it is based on the college’s needs and what they place emphasis on.
A lot of people go in expecting that a 4.0 and a 1500+ will get them into the brightest school, but I think selective colleges are trying to include more first-gens and generally bring in more diverse classes in terms of talent. (Of course, applying to any college because of some published rank is a terrible decision…)
I think Emory’s admissions process really does hold true to the whole ‘holistic’ idea; they look past numbers and focus on what you can bring to the table given the opportunities the university provides. I visited a few months back and really fell in love, so I truly hope the admissions committee takes a chance on me.
Hi I have a question to the people that were accepted ED. Was the financial aid calculator pretty similar to what you received with financial aid? Or was it far off?
Did any of you guys get an interview opportunity? I did an interview and I was wondering if that helps my application in anyway.
One more week to wait!
Hey I’ve applied ED2.
I said I wont be needing financial aid on the Common app, however i might require it now. Is it possible to apply for aid i after i get my decision.
6 days left!
@BrownBoi2.0 I believe that if you are late in applying for financial aid, then they’ll just send you an aid estimate as soon as they can. If you do apply after receiving the decision, just apply quickly to make sure you can get an estimate by the enrollment deadline.
@collegecollegecollege I didn’t receive an interview request, but I do live in metro Atlanta and I don’t think they do alumni interviews here. A nice word from your interviewer would definitely help your application.
HELP omg so i was not aware there was a student portal for emory (i was only using my OPUS account) and i realized that my guidance counselor never sent in my mid-year reports, which is way past the jan 25th deadline!!! is it too late to send it in now? what should i do? i’m actually freaking out… i’m going to call the admissions office first thing when they open on monday morning, and i already sent an email to the admissions counselor for my region and my guidance counselor. should i change my application plan from ED2 to RD? will this hurt me in the admissions process? emory is my ABSOLUTE favorite school and i would be soo devastated if i didn’t go… my stats and extracurriculars are all very strong and i would hate myself if i got rejected b/c my guidance counselor never sent in the stupid mid year reports… omg help me please! thank you
@anika839 Just email/call the admissions office on Monday and inquire about what your options are. They’re very flexible, from personal experience. And no, you won’t get rejected because you’re missing a mid year report.
thank you!! any tips on what i should say? do you think i should change from ED2 to RD?
applied ED2… 0 for 3 right now… hoping Emory will be the first lol
@anika839 Just explain the situation; it shouldn’t negatively impact your application at all. If you feel that your midyear could really help then you may want to switch to regular decision. But if you already present a very strong profile I suppose you could just stay on ED2 and see what happens. Ultimately I’d ask the admissions office about what you should do.
@stern2021 Been accepted at 2 safeties and rejected from 2 reaches. I love Emory though so I’m really feeling optimistic.
