Emory College

What's the difference between Emory U and the College? Are the entrance requirements different? Are they separate entities or does the College come under Emory University. I know someone who applied to Emory University but got accepted to Emory College and not the University. Is the College as pestigous as the University?

Emory University consists of several colleges. Emory College is one of them.

The college is an entity of the University.....

It is not possible to apply to the University, you have to apply to an indidvidual college.

Emory University is comprised by a number of undergraduate- and graduate-level schools and affiliated research centers. For undergraduate studies, there are 4 pertinent schools:

Emory College (the primary undergraduate division at Emory University);

Oxford College (a 2-year college, located in Oxford, GA, that has a separate application process and also has an option whereby most students matriculate in their junior year to Emory College);

Goizueta Business School (which Emory students can apply to after 2 years of general education at Emory College for the undergraduate business program);

Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (again, Emory students can apply to after 2 years of general education while enrolled at Emory College);

Application is made to Emory College; however, it is part of Emory University. If you are admitted, you are admitted to the College, but again, it is a division of the University – just like your arm is a part of your body. Since the College is a part of the University, its perceived prestige is equal with the University in general. However, that said, prestige is a relative attribute based in part on what you are comparing against.

The graduate level schools include:

Goizueta Business School (btw, pronunciation of the name is roughly “goyz-SWEAT-ah”, for all of those wondering about such matters)

Candler School of Theology

Rollins School of Public Health

Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing

In addition, there are affiliated organizations, including the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, the Carter Center, and Emory Healthcare, a comprehensive healthcare network.

There is also a School of Medicine, School of Allied Health (which offers a BS degree), School of Law, and a School of Arts and Sciences which offer graduate degrees.

dgebll,

Yep, I don't know what I was thinking... other than multi-tasking and trying to get work and "other distractions" done at the same time. Right you are, as usual! ;)

Thanks all.
