I really like Emory and I was wondering how their Math department is. I want to be pre-med, but a math major, possibly a minor in computer science or bio. So in all honesty how good is it? Also, what does it mean to have a "good" or "bad" department? I never really understood that.

I think some common things in “bad” departments are:
- Weak curriculum
- Bad teachers
- Lack of job placement.
- Disorganization
Emory is pretty good by those standards. But definitely a full step or two from being elite. Most elite math schools would be top engineering schools. Assuming you end up in med school, the math department reputation would not be as important as other reputations.

So how would you rate emory?

If you mean rate the math department. I am a math major and see the department as pretty good. Definitely not as elite as some of Emory’s other departments but don’t find the math department lacking anything. Job opportunities are there. Teachers are very knowledgeable. Never had a bad teacher outside of intro classes. I certainly don’t feel at a disadvantage.
