I'm filling out my Emory application on CommonApp and I selected the option for me to be considered for the Emory Scholars program. However, no additional essay prompt appears in the writing section! What am I doing wrong?

There is no additional essay its just a check mark you click

Are you sure? The website indicates that additional essays must be submitted as well. Here’s the link: <a href=“Emory University Scholar Programs | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Emory University Scholar Programs | Emory University | Atlanta GA; Check the first FAQ question.

I was looking for the same thing. They have always had an essay and the website says there is one. Where could it be?

@desie1 Yeah, I’m not sure! Over the summer I remember seeing the prompts and I wrote them down and finished my essay. I wanted to upload it on CommonApp yesterday, but there wasn’t a space available. Maybe they went away with the essays this year…? I honestly have no idea…

There is an additional essay that you have to write. It is on the common app right after checking off " yes " to Emory Scholars- it’s in that general area I believe. My daughter chose to write about a course she would teach. I forgot what the other choice was.

@twogirls Those essays (create a course or teaching yourself something last year) are the general Emory supplemental essays, not the Scholar-specific ones. Even if I uncheck the scholars option, I’m still required to do that essay (create a course or teach yourself). The scholar ones I saw on the website earlier over the summer were:

“The future belongs to the discontented.” -Robert W. Woodruff, Coca-Cola
Explain how this quote resonates with you.

“The cynics will tell you that the good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.” -Robert C. Goizueta
As a future business leader, what is the good you would like to contribute in the world and why?

They may not be exactly the same word for word, but that’s what I copied into my notebook and it’s the same general idea.

I am looking at the website now and there are two choices for scholars essays: 1. Creating an academic course that is in the Emory spirit… Or 2. What is something you have taught yourself . Just to be sure I called Emory ( just hung up) and was told that they eliminated the essays that you describe and all that is needed are the common app personal statement and one of the essays noted above. I know the essays that you mentioned because I also saw them over the summer, but evidently they have been removed. I then asked admissions again before hanging up if those essays have been removed and was told " yes."

@twogirls Thank you sooooo much! I should have called; I knew something wasn’t right. You’ve cleared up a lot of confusion and anxiety, haha. Best of luck to your daughter this admission cycle. Thanks again!

My friend’s daughter also called.Emory said no more scholar essays!

The web site says scholar essays are not required unless/until you become a finalist or whatever they call the few hundred people they choose to go on.
