Emory to Cornell

Currently a freshman at Emory taking Calc 1 Micro Econ 101 English 101 and LACS 101 looking to transfer to Cornell Arts and Sciences. Went to top 5 private high school, had 3.0 (but upward trending B+, A- towards junior and senior) with 29 on the ACT. On track for a 3.7 GPA for first semester so far (although it is early) and pretty proficient in writing essays. What are my chances? Do i have to ramp it up and improve my GPA?

Why do you want to transfer to Cornell? Emory is a fantastic school, so I don’t know why you would want to transfer.

You should probably be happy you got into Emory. In any regard, isn’t it a little early to talk about transferring?

Do you need FA?

@rdeng2614 @sgopal2 @TheAtlantic There are couple reasons: I know people who have gone through and are going through recruiting for jobs and internships in banking and other fields, real estate etc. (specifically in NY) which is most likely what I am going to go into and have found that Emory’s placement and connections in New York are not very strong. Hence, also knowing people at Cornell, it is better connected in NY for obvious reasons and even though there is not a business school, so I would not be getting a more tailored degree such as Finance, it seems to be better to have maybe an Econ degree. May also be looking to pursue a double major in Art History and Econ which seems more doable based on what I’ve heard than paired with something like at Finance. Also, The school feels a bit too small to me in relation to the social scene and is kind of dead. There are a couple more reasons but yeah. Additionally these are only feelers I am not dead set on transferring out but if I send out a few application it would not be harmful. So, I am just thinking ahead so if I would like to transfer out by the time I have sent out applications I would know what I would need to have approximately etc. Yes would need FA.
