Emory, Tulane or Vanderbilt?

I am deadlocked right now between these three choices for college next year. Here are my worries about the schools. Tell me what you think.

Emory: I’ve heard that there are a lot of Northerners at Emory there who can be kind of self centered, elitest, and loud. (This is a bad stereotype, I know.) Also, Emory is only about five minutes away from my house in Atlanta so I’m worried it might not be enough of a change for me.

Tulane (with 22k a year scholarship + honors program): Tulane does not have the academic prestige that the other two schools have, and I’m not positive I’ll get as good of an education there as I would at the other two. Also, I’m worried that Tulane attracts a lot of its students for the sole reason that the drinking age there is (not legally but practically) 18. I’m fine with drinking but I get the impression that most people at Tulane get smashed about 5 nights a week.

Vanderbilt: I’m worried it’s overwhelmingly conservative (I’m a democrat) and that people there are very Southern. Now I’m a Southerner myself, but I’m not a big fan of 1.) country music or 2.) going to a school with a bunch of homecoming queens overly concerned about the latest fashion. Also, I REALLY cannot stand people who are ignorant / exclusive (by this I mean that I was worried by things such as the huge confederate flag I saw hanging in a dorm room at Vanderbilt.) Are a lot of Vanderbilteans like this?

Thanks!

i would go to emory or vandy (tulane if money is a problem)

vandy's political affliation is nearly 50/50. im conservative and when we were doing debates in government class i was very outnumbered.
country music does suck, but id say most kids listen to like 90s alternative, classic rock, 80s, and college ambient (OAR, dispatch, guster, etc) or rap. the student body is preppy however and the girls do dress well.

Emory does have alot of long islanders but im sure they have good diversity all-around. i wouldn't worry about student bodies tho cuz im sure you can find your niche.

I'd recommend Vanderibilt. It's probably more diverse than Tulane, and certainly has higher-caliber academics, and it's further from home than E.

Thanks guys. Any more advice? I'd especially like to hear from people who go to these schools.

Vanderbilt. I have known several grads and they are not stereotypically southern. It tends to attract people from the top southern families who are quite sophisticated and wordly.

bump . . . . . .
