Emory or Tulane....ugh

Okay so I can go to Tulane almost 100% free.

Until a few hours ago this decision was made, I would go to Tulane. However Emory e-mailed me with an updated financial aid award (I appealed..kinda), and the award went from out of pocket 9k a yr to out of pocket 4k a year. I really am leaning towards Emory.

I don't like to party much, and I'm not big on drinking.

Emory would cost me about 2.5k/yr more than Tulane right now.

Prospective major something to do with Engineering (possibly BmE) or business. Could change.

Haven't and can't afford to visit either.

I've lived in LA all my life so that is why I'm really leaning towards Emory but I just can't decide yet.

Hallpp

On the money, it’s close enough for you to pick your favorite. Not being able to visit is a bummer.

You realize that Emory doesn’t have Engineering, don’t you? Both are good schools, but Emory is a step above Tulane. Also, Tulane is a hard partying school and Emory is social, but not at the same pace. For the amount of cost differential, that’s fairly insignificant. If you can swing the difference in price, my vote would be Emory overall. However, given that you want to do engineering, Emory doesn’t make sense.

Well, I have to say 10K extra of debt for 4 years, 16K total wouldn’t be a deciding factor for me. Emory sounded like a better fit for you from your prior posts, except for the engineering issue, and now the money is much less of a problem. You should go where your intuition is taking you, and that sounds like Emory. And you know this is unbiased, because you also know I would rather see you at Tulane. But if I am right about where your instincts are, then that is what you should do.

I would only say that there will be lots of kids at Tulane that won’t want to party so much and will not be big on drinking (one of them lives in my house right now), so despite the reputation you will be able to find plenty at Tulane that doesn’t involve doing that all the time. You know the other things I think are strong about Tulane (BME and business both very good), but obviously Emory is a great school. Go where you think you will be happiest, 16K debt out of school (if it is debt you are talking about, maybe you can just pay it) doesn’t seem that bad. But if money is that tight for you and your family, then keeping the money and having engineering at Tulane as an option might be best. I am confident you would find friends that matched your personality. OK, I just switched sides, didn’t I? I guess it depends on how important that money is and how much you want to have engineering as an option, at least.

Emory has a combined program with Georgia Tech for BmE that is #2 in the nation.

Well I can pay a good portion of it yeah. And thanks Fallen, I know you are very unbiased. I think I’ve decided on Emory. Thanks for all the support you’ve given to me and others :P

Emory - Check out your username for heavens sake! For the amount of debt you’re talking about, buy a used car instead of a new one when you get out of college and you’ll be even!

Haha yeah I know Gadad :P

And lol at a new car. My mom didn’t get one of those until she was 40 so I can manage.
