Emory University Class of 2016 EDI

I saw that all the previous years had group chats with the EDI applicants to Emory. I read and felt the tension they experienced during this stretch, and I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread creating a foundation of the (hopeful) class of 2016.

hey everybody, its nov 2nd here in Shanghai China, and I have sent in my Emory ED app a while ago. Already amazingly anxious…Hopefully i’m not the only one feeling this way.

Wow, China! I am a parent of an applicant and I am impressed that you are venturing so far from home. Best of luck to you.

My son isn’t anxious at this point, just hopeful. He really loves Emory but he is not the college confidential type (he is very low key) so he won’t be commiserating with his fellow applicants online. At least, I don’t think so.

I have learned quite a lot from this website. I hope that you soon find other students to support you as you await your admissions decision.

I also applied for EDI

but i’m planning not to get my hopes up…

@seiclan: thanks, living in china has been an interesting experience.

I feel that Emory isn’t as well known as many of the big name ivy leagues, or Duke, Johns, and Northwestern for that matter. However, I am certain that it is a strong academic institution. I feel that it is overlooked sometimes (along with rice and vanderbilt). Anyone else share this view?

We live in South Florida and Emory, although known, is not as popular as Duke and some other of the top 20 schools. It might be because they don’t have a football team but I am not sure. My son doesn’t care though. He has never been a follower.

I agree, your son, and everyone who is applying shouldn’t mind the rankings. After much research, I know that Emory has top business and medical programs. It also holds a very holistic educational curriculum. This is why I’m applying ED1…In regards to the rankings, Emory has the 8th or 9th largest endowment nationally, and that would only help Emory rise in the rankings (like how WashU. did by using their large endowment).

ED Hopeful here! I am a Syrian Texan =)

Good luck to everyone!

@cybersailor: hey gud luck to you too. I wonder if they ever release decisions before the 15th

My son applied ED I as well.Wants to attend the highly ranked business school. Taylorj21 we are part Chinese as well, but from the US. Hopefully you and my son will be able to meet each other at Emory! Wishing all ED1 applicants good luck!

@2010freshman: How interesting! When you say you are part Chinese I’m not sure if you mean mixed or ABC, but I am asian and I grew up in Vegas (then moved to shanghai). I hope both your son and I can be accepted. That would be the ideal outcome. Emory’s undergrad business is ranked #3 by Business Week. It is def. one of the top ones.

Applied EDI last week, good luck everyone!!!

Does anyone know what the average number of ED applicants there are and how many, on average, are admitted?

Applied EDI about 3 weeks ago. Anyway, i don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I have a quick question: on OPUS, many of the items on the to do list are indicated as completed for Oxford, but not for Emory. Is this the case for anybody else? I’m sure it’s just a matter of processing, but nonetheless, it seems odd.

@pca098: i think last year had about 750 applicants that applied for early decision 1 and emory accepted about 350. The normal percentage accepted for early decision at emory is i believe is around 48%.

nihilarian - I would call admissions and ask. My son didn’t apply to Oxford (too small for him). There are no items listed on my son’s todo list (as completed or otherwise). The to do list does say something about no outstanding items. He did get a letter in the mail stating that his application for Emory was complete. I hope this helps.

All the stuffs I sent by mail says “initiated” in the OPUS… Darn I should call Emory to ask about this :/

Gahh so nervous xD

Hey guys, I’m a potential Emory ED 1 applicant for next year, right now my top 2 are Rice and Emory, and I’m assuming since the two schools are similar in a lot of ways many people here had the same problem. Since you obviously chose Emory, what lead you to choose it over Rice?

premed → probably not good reasons, but Emory is a bit easier to get into and there’s a girl who I really like going there so… yeah haha xD

@premed4: You are 100% correct when assuming that I had difficulties choosing between Emory and Rice. Both schools have a holistic educational curriculum, but Emory is better at the subjects that I value more (Business, Medical, Law). Also, Emory has the 9th largest endowment so there is no fear about the school holding back their spending abilities to help the students. Because Emory has the 9th largest endowment, and endowment is often correlated with college rankings, I am relatively certain Emory will rise in the rankings like Wash U. did. This leads to more prestige in an Emory diploma. Depending on your preference, you should research Emory’s location vs. Rice’s location. Rice is sort of a rural small city area, and Emory is Suburban and only 20min from Atlanta. If you are interested in premed i suggest you go to Emory because the CDC (center for disease control) is in close proximity. This would give you lots of opportunities to shine in college and get into a good grad school. Lastly, I chose Emory for their Track&Field, I was recruited and the support I received from Emory’s athletic staff exceeds that of the other schools I was contacted by. Hope this helps.
