Hi I'm a junior in hs, and still trying to find a major and potential career before I'm a senior. I looked into both schools-Emory and Ga Tech- and found great degree programs at both and can't really put my finger on which one will prepare me the best. Firstly, I am really intent on being in public health (global) like the peace corps, then going into government like congress or presidency. So, at Emory, I could double major in Biology and International Affairs, plus I want to go to Emory's school of public health. Or, at Ga Tech, I could major in Biochemistry and International Affairs.

I really don't know which program would prepare me more for public health and govt offices. Honestly, whichever school sends the most money my way is in my heart.

I really need some guidance from alumni and students of both schools.

thanks to all

If your goal is to be in politics, you have more issues to think about than the quality of education and cost. For example, will it be considered “elitist” to attend a private school? Then again, will you develop the same network at a public school? It’s doubtful Obama would have had the same connections and opportunities if he attended the University of Hawaii than Occidental / Columbia. Then there’s the issue of military service: would it be better to go to a military academy then accept a commissioned office?

In short, I don’t think there’s a right answer, the issue of trying to plan a political career is too complicated.

I visited GA Tech two days ago and I loved it!
I haven’t seen Emory yet…but I was told that before we make our final choice, we should definitely make sure that we like the campus. After all…it’s our next four years. 8)

I think I want to go into International Affairs too…except if I were to attend GA Tech, I’d probably double major it with Modern Languages. Emory…I really like their Psychology/Linguistics program.

What school do you go to?

Come on over to Emory. Amazing in the Spring!!! Visit on a weekday though, so that you can see lots of activity and perhaps sit in on classes. You still in Atlanta?

Emory does have a great campus (if you have a car).

Hey thatelephantt. I go to Ware County High School in Waycross of southeast Ga. Where are you from? I visited Ga Tech back in Feb with the Futures program, but if I were to get into tech, I’d major in internat. affairs and biochem. I stayed at Emory for 2 weeks in the summer during 9th grade and I fell in love with the school too, so I am between the two. Are you a junior as well?

@bernie2012: Well, I live about an hour away from ATL. Haha.

@majord14: Dang! For you, getting in is like guaranteed. Haha. I’m a junior at South Forsyth High School–it’s kinda up north? Haha. Honestly, I didn’t give Tech any thought up until like a few weeks ago. Haha. I was going for Emory but I realized that tuition might be a problem so I thought I should give myself some choices. Haha. I really do like Tech though.

Good thatelephantt, so you have at least been on Emory’s campus? You just haven’t done a formal visit?

@bernie2012: I’ve passed it the few times I was in ATL but I don’t think that constitutes as being on Emory’s campus. Haha.
