Emory v. Michigan Honors

So yesterday I was admitted to Emory!!!!! I am debating on whether to attend Emory or go to the University of Michigan (Honors Program). I would have to pay full tuition for both. I am not quite sure yet what I want to major in college. I am like Business, Psychology and Medicine. I know Ross is a great BBA program but I don't like the fact that you have to apply after your first year. I would rather much get some exposure and time to really find out what I want to do after undergraduate. As from what I heard, Goizueta is a great BBA program as well? How hard is it to get into Goizueta in relation to Ross? What has better outside connections? I am a sports fan but it does not have that much of an affect on my college decision. I really want to come out of college getting the best education I can as well as the best advising I can. I also don't want to be studying every single day of the week. How hard is it to do well at Emory in relation to the classes at Michigan? Anybody have to make this decision before? Please tell me what you chose and why??!! Is the Honors Program at Michigan very special? Do you get many advantages being in Honors? I definitely like smaller classes. Which curriculum is more flexible. I hate languages!! Also how are research opportunities and pre-med at both these schools? I know these are a lot of questions but I am new to this and I just would love some insight on both these programs.

If you post this in the Emory forum, you’re going to get a biased response. EMORY!

I’m not going to answer all your questions, but I was admitted to both Emory and Michigan (Honors and Preferred Admission to Ross) for the Class of 2016 and I have decided to choose Michigan. I might post in further detail tomorrow, alas, I’m exhausted, but Michigan is just a better fit for me. I also have instate tuition, but I would have chosen Michigan regardless. I DONT mean to insult Emory in anyway, although I’m sure I will get “hate-posts” for doing this on the Emory forum. Bring it on =p haha

Michigan’s Honors Program is not really a “Honors College” in the traditional sense and is more of a small program that allows motivated students in the LSA schools take some special classes and write a thesis to graduate with distinction. Honors students get preferential housing choices in South Quad so lots of students actually just use it for that and later drop out of Honors.

My best friend started out in the Honors Program and dropped out after the first year and he says that the attrition rate is pretty high since people don’t really see the point in it after a little while. One of his close friends who I met recently stayed and seemed to like it well enough and is headed to Michigan Law in the Fall.

I would go with Emory if you can afford it. Atlanta is an awesome city, the weather is great, Emory’s campus is beautiful and the student body as a whole is going to be more accomplished.

I would give the slight edge to Michigan’s BBA program but I’d give the slight edge to Emory for premed.

the thing is i am a little bit worried that I might not get into Ross or if i get admitted to ross and then decide i don’t want a bba. which school has a better curriculum for people who might change majors?

I would say Emory is better for an applicant who needs flexibility and might change his/her mind. Michigan is a great school with a lot of resources but you"ll need to know exactly what you want to take complete advantage of the opportunities.
