Emory V Tulane (please help!)

These schools seem similar because they are

  1. similar in undergrad size
  2. similar in acceptance rate and admission stats
  3. in fairly large southern cities

Can someone help me determine any significant differences between the two? Especially if I am not pursuing pre-med or STEM fields (which seem to be Emory’s specialty). Thanks so much!! I am most likely an english/poly sci major with a minor in music!

If the costs are similar, go with Emory. Atlanta is a much more dynamic metropolitan area than New Orleans, and the placement will be much better.

@Zinhead tulane offered 17,000 a year in merit aid so it basically takes off 25% of tuition.

Have you visited the schools yet? After you visit you may decide that one feels more like somewhere you could be for 4 years than another one.

Certainly if both schools are comfortably affordable then visit and choose your preference. I would say that Emory has somewhat more competitive admissions and is a little higher ranked, but for the price differential I’d choose Tulane. Everyone we know who goes to/went to Tulane seems to have a great experience.

The best help I can give you as an alumni of Emory is to do a visit and get on campus and talk to people. Find out if that is a culture that you like. Emory wants candidates who are motivated to go there. Tulane really is in uptown New Orleans and Emory is in suburban Atlanta with a beautiful campus and quadrangle. Congratulations on your admission to Tulane and the scholarship and good luck with Emory.
