I have these three schools to choose from and I am quite stuck. I have not visted Emory, so I might fall in love with it when I do, but right now I just have no idea what to think (they were my three bottome choices).

I would like to major in political science/international relations. I know GW is known for these majors, but Emory is the better school overall. Would I be at an advantage going to Emory rather than GW or NYU based solely prestige? And while I love GW, I also love NYU and NYC.

In terms of social life, I want to have fun and work hard and it is very important to me that the student body of the school I attend is generally politically aware and concerned. From what I hear, GW and NYU fall under this category but I am not sure about Emory. I REALLY don't want an apathetic student body, that is for sure. Also I come from the Northeast and am completely unfamiliar with Atlanta.... i'm not sure I would be happy so far south (is it overwhelmingly conservative?).

Any thoughts on this predicament?

Emory is not southern. People actually complain about how much of the student body is from the northeast. There are lots of New Yorkers and the school is around 35% Jewish (probably similar to GW and maybe NYU?), so it is naturally left-leaning. I didn't like GW much, but I'd definitely consider NYU if I didn't live here. Try and visit Emory before you make a decision. The campus is ridiculously nice.

Emory is the "college experience" of the three, and you can still easily work in politics during summers. It might be a little too "fratty," but there are plenty of people not in this category.

GW's programs in poli sci and IR are some of the best. It all comes down to the feel and what's important to you in a school and campus.

You are correct in saying that the student body at GW is politically aware and very involved.

DC's an amazing city. We have a great nightlife that includes clubs, bars, jazz lounges, etc. OR you could do my favorite activity: midnight monument tours. More fun with a tipsy group of friends.

Let me know if you want more info.

i just got my official acceptance letter from GW and they are offering me a four-year half-tuition scholarship!!!! i'm really excited/flattered and this has definitely changed things a bit... but I'm still visiting Emory. However, its gonna take ALOT for me to give up $75,000 towards me education!! Any new thoughts?
