Emory vs. Boston College vs. UMCP vs. (maybe) Michigan?

Hello~
I'm having trouble choosing between the four mentioned colleges.
I'm a Maryland resident so the low tuition cost is the only thing that's really drawing me to University of Maryland College Park- that and the fact that I got admitted into the Honors College.
As of now, I want to major in the social sciences field: Intl Relations, Political Science or Economics.

I visited Emory yesterday and the campus itself was appealing but I felt like there wasn't as vibrant a "college community" as Boston College does.

Another thing that's on my mind is the possibility that I might choose to transfer to another school- most likely an Ivy (please spare me the criticisms, thank you :]). I feel like if I attend Emory and do exceptionally well, I'll have a better chance of getting accepted when I transfer than if I attend UMCP or Boston.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You would go to Maryland just for the low tuition and then transfer to an Ivy??? That’s so inconsistent. I don’t think you really care about tuition. Also if all you’re doing is setting yourself up to transfer to a better school, your best shot is to go where you can get a 4.0. Don’t worry about the “community” or prestige. That’s a waste of time if you’re only gonna be there a few months.

If you visited on a Saturday or Sunday morning, it’s probably because everybody was sleeping :)

This time of year especially (and in the fall as well), Emory’s campus is really active and there’s tons to do.

In terms of your areas of interest, Emory is has really good Political Science/International Studies department. In addition, Emory’s close relationships with the Carter Center and the Dali Lama are a HUGE resources for students looking for internships and real-world experience.

Also, if you choose Emory, I really doubt you’re going to want to go through with the transfer (Emory has a really high retention rate).
