Emory vs Boston College

I am a high school senior at a private catholic school in Massachusetts. I have been accepted by Emory and Boston College, however I really don't know which one to choose. I am looking to go into pre med, have visited the BC campus and will be visiting emory soon. Both of the schools are beautiful however I am worried about Emory's distance. Right now that's my biggest issue, does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Emory’s a better school for sure.

I guess you need to ask yourself “Will I develop more as a person if I get away from my comfort zone all at once (Emory), or do I need to do something like this little by little (Boston College)?”

I (obviously) picked the former, but there isn’t a wrong answer to that. It depends on the person.

You make a great point! I agree it depends on the person and whether someone is ready to make big or little steps. Thanks for you insight!

Boat,

I bet you know Emory very well. Would you please tell me Emory International relations/ or International affairs major is strong or good nationwide?
My D has the same situation now. She had been accepted in Emory and BC.
For me, I love Emory. Two years ago, we went to Emory and D loved it too. However, she is young and easy changes her mind. As long as Emory has strong fields- which deal with some politics or International relations/affairs majors, she will go. So, base on your knowledge, could you give more info?

I honestly don’t know anything about international relations. I know political science is very, very good (and the two are obviously intertwined). A friend of mine is a political science major here. He definitely loves it. Sorry I can’t help more. But I feel your daughter should definitely come here based on what you said she loves it (and if she changes about her major, we have some really strong fields in both the arts and sciences).

Edit: I ran a google search and I found http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/emory-university/1177830-international-relations-middle-eastern-studies-emory.html</a></p>

Airtran flies direct to Boston for very reasonable prices. Once you settle in, you won’t want to come home except on breaks b/c you will not want to miss out. We live north of Boston and my D was a real homebody but that changed very quickly! Air tran has a neat thing - Airtran U - students can fly standby for $49 or $69 each leg. My S flew to Richmond for a weekend to see a friend for $120.

As for international relations, I don’t know a lot but here are a few things--

1) Carter Center [The Carter Center: Advancing Human Rights and Alleviating Suffering](<a href=“Page Not Found”>The Carter Center | Waging Peace, Fighting Disease & Building Hope)

2) Int’l major requirements which you probably already saw:
[Major in International Studies | Emory College | Atlanta, GA](<a href=“Error 404: Page Not Found”>Error 404: Page Not Found)

3) Some neat Centers and Institutes including exchange in Tibet and study of modern Israel. [Centers, Institutes, and Other Resources | Emory College | Atlanta, GA](<a href=“Error 404: Page Not Found”>Error 404: Page Not Found)

Emory’s program is called “International Studies”, and I think it works very well in combination with the Emory Study Abroad Program (look under “CIPA” for study abroad).

Congratulations for getting accepted into Emory and BC! I did too, and I must applaud you for your achievements.
OP, you said were going into the pre-med track. Emory dominates BC in terms of academia related to anything medical. Not being biased here because it’s the truth.

In terms of travel, Atlanta’s airport has more flights than any other airport in the country. It is home base for Delta, the largest airline, and for Airtran (which is being merged into Southwest).
