I know, I know, I know… you guys are probably like “omg why would she even ask?! Emory ftw!”

BUT, I’m still debating because I want to major in some sort of environmental studies. I live in L.A. and Davis has more choice in majors and a wider variety of classes. But something in me can’t pass up the opportunity to go to Emory.

I’m killing myself leaning towards one school and then another the next hour… Is my debate between these two schools even justified??

I think it’s justified. There are other things to take into account than just the names of the two schools. Do you have any specific questions about the programs or anything at Davis?

Yes your debate is justified because of your major choice. UC Davis has more experts in environmental studies than any other school in the nation. UC Davis has grown to be one of the nation’s strongest institutions in environmental sciences with the highest citation rate in top tier ecology/environmental journals of any North American university.

I don’t know much about Emory, but I would strongly advise you to visit both schools and tour their ES departments.

I’m going to visit Davis on the 17th… I visited Emory last year but didn’t get a chance to check out that specific major.

I think I am more concerned with how the budget cuts will effect davis…

But I’m not sure how much “respect” Emory has for environmental studies majors…

I absolutely LOVE the majors (esp. environmental policy analysis and planning) and classes available at Davis, but I would also love the undergrad attention/very modern facilities at Emory.

Davis has undergone extensive renovation/remodeling. The funds used for renovation don’t come from the same funds in the budget cuts.

Many of the projects in the video have been completed. Email the department head of ES and see if you can get a tour.

Come visit, you’ll see that Davis is probably even more modern than emory, and if you work hard and go to office hours, you’ll get plenty of attention, especially in discussions.
