Okay, well I am really excited that I have been accepted to these two schools, but I am so torn between them! I posted the same thread in the Tulane forum. So, I have only visited Emory and will visit Tulane in a couple weeks during Destination Tulane. Well first, I plan to major biology and study in a pre-med track. Which school would prepare me more for med school? How is the work load for both schools?

Socially, I am unsure which school would be a better fit for me. I really enjoy partying and want to be around friendly students. I am unsure about Emory's party scene, but I know Tulane has a good one (duh New Orleans). Any Tulane students have trouble staying focused with New Orleans's easy access to good times and booze? As for Emory students, how difficult is it to balance while working in Atlanta? How is Emory's party scene?

If anyone wants to include anything about either school that I didn't mention above I would really appreciate it! Thank you all!

this is great, because awhile ago i was choosing between emory and tulane. i think when you visit tulane, you'll just know. the best word i can use to describe tulane is vibrant. and of course there is partying and going out, but the girls i stayed with for my overnight definitely made sure we knew that if you had work to do or you didn't want to go out, there was no pressure to go out. everyone there was incredibly friendly. if you're in the honors program, there are wonderful opportunities for intimate classes. tulane also has one of the best study abroad programs available - you can literally go anywhere you want. take a tour and look at the dorms, especially wall. the tour is what made me decide on tulane.

I was also accepted to Tulane; didn't apply to Emory. I absolutely loved the campus and atmosphere at Tulane, but it was a fall back school for me. However, Emory is a considerably better school, the party scene is very good (I live in Atlanta), and Atlanta itself can be a lot of fun (although, nothing really compares to the French Quarter in NOLA). If you got into both Emory and Tulane, I'm assuming the latter was more a safety so I would definitely go with Emory, unless Tulane gives you a bunch of money. College is primarily about getting an education, and, for that, most people would say that Emory is better than Tulane.

Tulane did give me money.. $17,000. Although it is generous and I appreciate it, I feel like I might as well go with Emory since the scholarship isn't enormous. Paying for college (thankfully) is not a problem for me and my family, but free money is extremely attractive. Is $17 K enough or should I just stick with Tulane?

Both are good schools and both will prepare you for medical school. As long as you do well, you won't have appreciably different outcomes regardless of where you go. There is some inherent advantage at the "home" medical school. Emory favors its own in medical school applications, and I'm guessing Tulane does the same (don't know for sure). I graduated from Emory and am still here for medical school. I've enjoyed my time here, but I'm sure the same could be said by Tulane students. Just go where you feel more comfortable.
